The end of an era! The final chapter! Three and a half real-time years later, and Our Multiversal Heroes (tm) must face their final challenge, and the face of all known existence hangs in the balance…

Episode 19 and nearing the end! In this episode, Our Heroes (tm) dealt with Nidhogg’s nigh-endless army of armored soldiers in an infiltration mission that quickly became a “shoot them until they’re all dead” mission. Well, sorta.

Episode 18 and a TPK! It’s okay, though. We got better. When our old antagonist Garalaine Morgaustan wipes out all of Our Heroes (tm) in a carefully-constructed ambush, we turn around and do the same thing right back to him.

Episode 17. Our Heroes (tm) are called to be observers at a conference of monsters, convened to vote on whether the Great Old Ones should be invited to devour their world. But that’s only a secondary objective. Our first objective is to find a massive source of imponium, perhaps the most massive source there is. And the clock is ticking…

Episode 16. As Nidhogg's forces become ever more aggressive, there is only one place Our Heroes (tm) can turn for help: the greatest warriors in the multiverse, the Yeheba Kamorat. Don't let their looks fool you.

July 11, 2015 )

Next time... who knows?! All's fair in love and war as we rapidly approach end-game. Maybe some day we'll even figure out how Nidhogg plans to destroy us all. But one step at a time, I suppose.
Episode 15 and the cards are laid on the table. When Nidhogg extends the hand of hospitality to us, it’s only fitting that we circle around and stab him in the back. It’s for the good of the multiverse, after all. And involves big explosions, which has gotta count for something, right?

August 16, 2014 )

That’s it for this time! Next time: continued war! Retaliation! Retribution! And the knowledge that we may have messed up paradise forever! …But hey, it’s no big deal. At least we got to blow stuff up.
Into the lands of dream! Where the people are strange, the landscape is stranger, and fights are conducted by slinging phantasms. Unless you're us, of course.

This week's session answered the universal question, "How DOES the treasure get into the dungeons in the first place?" The answer, as it always seems to be, is "Our Heroes (tm)."

Normally I only post my URDR stories on the game's wiki, but I had too much fun writing this one not to share. You don't really need to know much to appreciate this story. My character, Yalia, is naturally able to travel easily between universes. Consequently, she needs a bag that's as sturdy as she is. Enter the Netherhells, an 'underworld' where standard hellish stuff comes side-by-side Jim Henson style monsters. Let the hilarity ensue!

Building a Better Handbag )
This week, Our Heroes (tm) found themselves stranded without magic, technology, or equipment. On the other hand, they did have quite a lot of enemies to kill, and that's gotta count for something.

March 22, 2014 )

And that's it for this time! Next time, back on the offensive! If we can figure out where to find the people we want to attack, of course. Don't bother us with details!
Imagine you're about to ship out for... anywhere. It might be modern-day New York or a far-future space station, a high-fantasy village or a wild west town, a post-apocalyptic zombie-scape or a film noire speakeasy. You get to bring one bag with you. It's a bag of holding, admittedly, so you've got plenty of space. In this bag, you must bring everything you could possibly need for a trip of indeterminate duration, in which you could travel to any number of universes. Your task could be nearly anything: surveillance, scouting, assault, or simple survival. The upside is you can select your equipment from any of these universes and have as many redundancies as you need. (Remember: In some universes, magic won't work. In others, no amount of technobabble can get your blaster pistol to function.)

So the question is, what do you take? I've got my list below, but I'd love input. Consider it a thought experiment that, as a side-effect, might help my URDR character live just a little bit longer.

The ultimate bug-out bag list )
In the aftermath of the destruction of URDR headquarters, Our Multiversal Heroes (tm) met one god and one being who, while not a god, is certainly quite powerful. Oh, the things we do for an organization that doesn't care about us at all...

January 26, 2014 )

And that's it for this time. Next time, onwards to find more of The Three. I can see no way in which this plan could possibly be flawed.
The bad news is, URDR headquarters has been sucked towards the edge of Universe 1 and destroyed forever. The good news is, no more pesky TPS forms to fill out.

December 21, 2013 )

And that's it for this time! Next time, rebels without a cause! Well, actually, we have quite a firm cause, just no infrastructure to back it up. But that's never stopped us before...
When Our Multiversal Heroes (tm) are sent by Morris to a conclave of dragons on a quest to stop a murder that hasn't happened yet, you know things are gonna get interesting. And when it turns out that most of the attendees think URDR is involved in the extermination of the most powerful of their kind, it's almost as though we were walking into the dragon's den... literally.

November 16, 2013 )

And that's it for this time. The plot thickens! But for now, we've still got an employer, and they are no doubt going to send us on yet more interesting and potentially deadly missions. Onwards!
Time for a good ol' fashioned dungeon crawl! Of course, I don't think most dungeon crawls end with the crawlers destroying the home of the dungeon's creator, but that's why this is URDR and not D&D.

October 19, 2013 )

And that's it for this time! Next time... Oh, I give up. We'll find out then.
Out onto the vast icy expanses of Valhalla! No, not that Valhalla, the other one. The home for retired dragon-slayers who just want to live their twilight years hunting trolls and feasting. So when frost giants start besieging the gates of Asgard, it's time to call in the professionals: Our Heroes (tm).

September 21, 2013 )

And that's it for this time! Join us next time for... who knows, really? That's the thing about URDR - you might be sent to defend just about anything. Bring your space-suit.
Following up on clues has led Our Heroes (tm) into the wild west, complete with a shootout at high noon. Of course, I don't think most wild west stories include a side trip to the Netherhells, but that's why we get paid the big bucks.

August 17, 2013 )

So that's it for this time. None of the good guys worse for wear (much), and one bad guy out of the picture (mostly). Onwards!
The fifth session of URDR Multiverse Defense saw Our Intrepid Heroes (tm) return to old 'verses to meet up with old antagonists... and utterly fail to get any answers. On the other hand, we got to fight a kaiju monster while piloting a giant mecha, so it can't be all bad.

May 12, 2013 )

And that's it for this time! Next time... who knows?! That's the joy of URDR!
Y'know, I'm almost surprised it took us four sessions to get to a zombie apocalypse. Thankfully, none of us were bitten. 'Cause that would be bad.

April 20, 2013 )

And that's it for now. Next game's in three weeks. See you then!
When Our Interdimensional Heroes (tm) are given the order from on high to "kill the green worm," you know things are about to get very strange, very fast. And it doesn't help that everything is in black and white.

March 9, 2013 )

And that's it. Our Heroes (tm) steal some loot and return to URDR headquarters, only a little worse for wear, to find themselves promoted, given better equipment, and told to be ready for the next time. Because no good deed goes unpunished.
