The weather was gorgeous in Montreal today -- at least in the shade -- and I figured it was time to help out at Abel Township again. The only complicating factor this time was a few mosquito bites I got Friday night at an outdoor barbeque, two of them annoyingly on my right foot. But no matter! The zombie apocalypse waits for no woman, and certainly not for her mosquito bites to heal! Stats and map for today's mission can be found on my ZombieLink page.
Today was the day, my friends. The long-awaited raid from New Canton. Thanks to Lem's headset, we at least had some forewarning, and Sam sent off a bunch of runners to run interference for me as I tried to distract New Canton's operator, Nadia. Sadly for us, all of our cameras had been taken out (by who? zombs? some third party?), making Sam blind to the world. But at least New Canton didn't seem to be faring any better.
Our Runner 3, Simon, went off with a noisemaker to distract the zombs while Runner 4, Jody, went north to be Sam's eyes. Runners 6 and 7 (Maggie and Evan, respectively) stayed with me as we strayed close to New Canton territory in the hopes that Nadia would pick up my signal and assume I was Lem.
Meanwhile, Nadia gave the order to fifteen or so of her runners to start the raid -- and in they came, with bolt cutters and heavy weaponry. (Why only 15, though? I seem to recall New Canton had a population of about 17,000 -- just their runners probably outnumbers the entire population of Abel Township.)
Anyway, Nadia eventually picked up my headset, assumed I was Lem -- I may have nudged her a bit in that direction by running according to her instructions -- and diverted a few of the New Canton runners to come get me. They were getting a little close, but just as Runner 6, Runner 7, and I were going to lose them in the little islands of Lindland Lake, Nadia called all her people home. Sam started cheering... right up until he realized the reason they were being drawn back: a huge host of 300 or so zombies, moving purposefully in our direction. Runner 4's words of warning were cut off with a scream, which probably doesn't herald any good for anyone.
So, the good news is that we don't have to fend off New Canton. The bad news is that we've got an incoming swarm of zombies that outnumbers every man, woman, and child in Abel. I'm not sure I like this trade-off.
On the other hand, I'm very happy that my run is now up on ZombieLink -- so cool! It's got pacing, maps, and even my music! The only thing it does not have is transmissions from Jack and Eugene of Radio Abel... not that I'm bitter. (Okay, I'm a little bitter.)
Otherwise, today's walk was pretty routine. Hot, but comfortable so long as I stuck to the shade. I'm glad I got out when I did, because it's supposed to thunderstorm for the next 3-4 days, and while Abel Township's survival may not wait on mosquito bites, it will wait on inclement weather.
Mission 22, naturally, will deal with the incoming zombie swarm. From what I've heard around the Intertubes, it ends on one heck of a cliffhanger, so I'm glad mission 23, the final mission for Season 1, is already out. But what will I do after that, if there's no more Radio Abel? *cries*
