Game of Tomes

Two days in a row! The good news is that no one's died yet. The bad news is that Lyra's semi-miraculous healing powers have led some parties to believe she's a warg, and Lucas is already preparing the dragonglass daggers "just in case." Oh, and Lord Reidell will be riding alone against the entirety of the Kingsguard AND Mad King Aerys, who's none too pleased with him right now. Oh, well. You know what they say: in the game of thrones, you win or you get skewered with a lance.
[Jeyne has suddenly realized that Lord Rickard Reidell has been planning this moment for a long time, maybe even years.]
Ian the GM: "And Jeyne is torn between 'I picked the right house' and 'Wait, maybe the house picked me.'"
[Soren and Lyanna Stark are in the weirwood, partly to pray and partly to act as Lyanna's alibi. Despite everything, Lyanna still wants to continue in the tournament.]
Lyanna Stark: "I wonder if Robert will accept my dalliances if he continues his."
[To ensure that Maxwell Reidell will win his jousts, and consequently pay off on the various bets that have been placed on him, Kyran instructed that all the wine be hidden from him.]
Rhaegar Targaryen: "I face Maxwell in the jousts tomorrow. I intend to get little sleep and some wine, so we can fight on an equal level."
Kyran: "Maxwell was sober for one of his matches, I believe."
Rhaegar Targaryen: "Wisdom comes with age."
Kyran: "...Maybe."
[Rhaegar has felt that Kyran has Targaryen blood in him. He's been trying to insinuate that Kyran looks A LOT like a young Aegon V. Sadly, it's all going right over Kyran's head.]
Kyran: "Your Grace, I really don't understand what's going on."
[Rhaegar warns Kyran not to interact with the king, lest His Grace get the wrong impression about Kyran's Targaryen blood.]
Kyran: "Normally I'd say I'd have a snowball's chance in Dorne of interacting with the king, but I am interacting with his son, so maybe it's snowing in Dorne."
[When Prince Rhaegar realized the mystery knight who attacked the king was, in fact, Lyanna Stark, he let her go. He and Kyran make their way back to Harrenhal to deliver the bad news.]
Rhaegar Targaryen: "Shame we couldn't find the mystery knight."
Kyran: "Yes. Shame."
Rhaegar Targaryen: "...Maybe when we get back, I should do the talking."
[In the melee, Rickard Stark broke Greatjon Umber's nose. Lucas puts it back in place for him.]
Lucas: "How's your breathing?"
Greatjon Umber: *breathes deep through his nose* "That hurts!"
Lucas: "You broke your nose."
Greatjon Umber: "I thought it was this southern air."
[Lucas returns to camp to find his tent singed and soggy. He tries to figure out what happened.]
Paxter Redwyne: "Lyra had a particularly fevered dream."
Lucas: "Unless she spontaneously combusted..."
Paxter Redwyne: "..."
Lucas: "Did she spontaneously combust?"
[Paxter himself is not quite sure what to make of the whole situation.]
Lucas: "Spontaneous combustion means 'burst into flame.'"
Paxter Redwyne (relieved): "Oh, so it's common, then."
[It turns out that Lyra did, in fact, burst into flames while dreaming that she was the weirwood around Harrenhal, attacked by Aegon the Conquerer's dragons. People are naturally being quite cautious around her.]
Lyra: "So you're saying I had a dream about being engulfed in dragonfire, and I was engulfed in dragonfire?"
Janus Reidell: "Oh, no. Don't be silly. If it was dragonfire, we couldn't have put it out."
[Lucas suspects that Lyra might be a warg. No one has told Lyra yet.]
Lucas: "This is so exciting! I never thought I'd meet one like you!"
Lyra: "...A woman?"
[Jeyne arrives late to the scene. Not that that's ever stopped her before.]
Jeyne: "Will you tell me at some point what happened?"
Janus Reidell: "I'm sure you'll find out."
[From the department of running jokes...]
Lyra: "Lucas, how common is it for people to spontaneously combust?"
Lucas: "Well, if there's a scientific term, it must be relatively common."
[Janus has asked Jeyne to find Benjen Stark. Last she heard, he was headed to Harrenhal Castle, but none of the guards saw him enter. Jeyne reaches the natural conclusion.]
Julie: "You know who will know where Benjen is? Raegon."
Ian the GM: "Good girl."
[Jeyne finds Raegon Reidell to ask for his help.]
Christian: "It's not just us going to Raegon for everything. It's everyone. This is how you become king, you know."
[Raegon Reidell takes Jeyne to a secret entrance to the castle and insists that Jeyne go with him to find Benjen Stark.]
Christian (to Julie): "Wacky adventures with Raegon! Your turn!"
[Raegon and Jeyne find Benjen Stark dressed all in black, standing at a small window overlooking the King's Landing/Lannister camp, with a drawn bow.]
Julie: "This goes into the blackmail folder."
[Jeyne convinces a reluctant Benjen Stark to come back before he assassinates Mad King Aerys, which may actually have been the best outcome for everyone, really.]
Christian: "You prevented Aerys from becoming JFK."
Julie: "I'm not sure how I feel about that."
[In the aftermath of witnessing Benjen's attempted assassination.]
Christian (to Julie): "You're a bad influence."
Marc: "No, I'll take the blame for this."
[Lucas is very excited about Lyra potentially being a warg. Especially since it's secret knowledge that Jeyne hasn't figured out yet.]
Lucas (singsong): "I know something you don't..."
Julie: "Jeyne does not say, 'That won't last.'"
[Lyra is worried about the earlier incident, because many of her siblings have died of consumption and no one has yet told her what's wrong with her.]
Janus Reidell: "I can assure you that spontaneous combustion is not a symptom of tuberculosis."
[Rhaegar Targaryen has discovered that Kyran is sleeping with Daenerys Reidell.]
Rhaegar Targaryen: "Be careful of the paths you must continue on."
Kyran: "...I have no idea what that means, Your Grace."
[Kyran returns home, having missed most of the day's excitement.]
Kyran: "What will you be doing tonight?"
Jeyne: "Damage control."
Kyran: "On what?"
Jeyne: "Everything."
[Soren has completely terrified Lucas with stories of wargs. The rest of the southron characters still think the whole thing is just northern superstition.]
Jeyne: "I'm not sure I believe in wargs in the first place."
Soren (in a completely different scene): "I grew up in the haunted forest!"
Jeyne/Julie: "See, I'm not part of that conversation, so I don't know that."
[To keep the potential wargs at bay, Lucas has built up the fire in his forge to truly epic proportions... then passes out.]
Kyn: "Nothing bad can happen with a huge fire at Harrenhal."
Ian the GM (giddy): "Oh, thank you."
[Rhaegar has revealed that Kyran looks a lot like a young Aegon V. Jeyne finally realizes the resemblance and figures out that Kyran must have Targaryen blood.]
Christian: "So now you know Kyran's deep, dark secret."
Julie: "I'm not sure Kyran knows Kyran's deep, dark secret."
Christian: "Are you kidding? He has no idea!"
[Soren managed to terrify Lucas so much with talk of wargs, he effectively cursed him.]
Christian: "So suddenly Game of Thrones became Cthulu."
[Kyran learns diplomacy and tact, but only very slowly.]
Kyran: "You're clearly a 14-year-old boy who has his head up his ass... my lord."
And that's it for this time. Join us next time to find out whether Lucas will kill Lyra for being a warg, whether Aerys will kill Lord Reidell for defying him, and whether Raegon will get everyone killed by simply being him. It's all in a day's work for the intrepid players of Game of Tomes!
