D&D this evening was great, despite only being two players. We worked through most of the back-story to the present game, and then Seb and Corrigan went off to find Myrthas' tower quite the worse for wear. I am far too tired to write a plot summary now, though I hopefully will get a chance to do one tomorrow.

Also, as I turned onto Chestnut coming home about ten minutes ago, I found at least a dozen police cars and ambulances along the street and neighbouring streets. It turns out there was a fire (not just a fire alarm, but a fire) in the building next to mine. It seems it wasn't too bad, and things appeared to be dying down as I got there, but it was exciting and stuff... in a "glad it's not me" kind of way.

Now, sleep. Tomorrow I will get secondary research done, damnit! G'night all.

Okay, I'm tired and you all read enough yesterday in the uber-write-up of the D&D session, so this will be short.

I got some good work done this morning, went to class all afternoon, and then got nothing done from the time I got home until about 7:30. Well, with the exception of getting my heater/air-conditioner unit replaced, for the second time in just over a month. Not that I'm bitter.

Realizing my room was eating my ability to do anything productive, I went to the library for an hour and then over to Massey for two. By 11, my eyes were bleary, my brain was unfocused, and even the Master seemed concerned and told me to go home. So I did. And now I'm here. And I'm going to sleep.

G'night all.

Today, my heater / air conditioning unit died. This morning it was making a weird smell, and when I came home this evening it refused to make the room warmer. I finally got so fed up with this state of affairs that I called the front desk, who called maintenance, who came to my room and replaced it. And now my room is warm again, and I am happy.

In other news, I managed to find a few... if not articles, then at least encyclopedia entries with bibliographies vaguely related to one of my paper topics. This pleases me. I am less pleased by my inability to take a book on reserve in the Music library to the copy place down the street that charges 3 cents per page instead of 10 cents, but as Sheridan would say "it's an imperfect universe."

After spending time in the music library, a had dinner at Massey. It was tasty and the conversation was interesting.

Tomorrow, I've got class from 10-2, after which I shall attempt to gather more articles, pack, and finally head over to [livejournal.com profile] acrabtree's for further character creation. I lead an interesting life, I know. But Wednesday... Wednesday I'm going home! Yay! So until then, I'll leave you all with a "g'night," and I shall leave the universe with the warning that if the fire alarm goes off tonight, the perpetrator will receive the Fist of Death.

Death.

The fire alarm has been pulled. It is very, very loud. I will probably need to evacuate. I believe I mentioned something about people waking me up in the middle of the night, dying.

Yup, evacuation time. Ugh.

Edited, 1:52 AM: Back now. At least I remembered to bring my ipod this time so I could indulge in some escapism. I'm very, very tired. The fist of death must wait until morning. But it will come, my precious. Oh yes, someone will die.

2:43-3:08 am: fire drill. Outside. In the cold. People decided to voice their displeasure. Loudly. Drunkenly. My scratchy throat (which had been gone) is back. I am very, very annoyed.

If anyone calls me tomorrow night without a damned good reason, I'm going to kill them.

Fire alarm + wet hair + no coat + slippers + t-shirt + subzero temperature = NOT HAPPY

This is what I get for taking a shower and then going to lunch. Stupid fire alarm... (On the upside, someone saw how cold I was and loaned me her scarf and gloves, which gave me just enough heat to not freeze.)

Blargh.

Okay, so today was not the best day I've ever had. (Not the worst by a long shot, mind you, but definitely not the best...)

Some things I discovered today... )

Anyway. My computer battery only has about 28% of a charge left (about an hour), so I'm going to stop writing now. Maybe I'll do another update later. I still don't know what I'm doing for the rest of the night. A bunch of people from Massey have gone off to an opera dress rehersal, but I'm not a big fan of opera, so I didn't. Blargh. All of a sudden, I realize that I am in Grad School. Stupid workload.

Edited, 8:15 pm: And now I must walk home in the rain. Which just started. Oh! And is that thunder I hear? ... Sigh.
This morning, it was raining. I went over to the Silver Snail, bought a few posters to go on my walls, and then came home. I didn't particularly like getting my shoes wet. Sigh.

This afternoon, I took an utterly useless tour of the Robart's library (the main UofT library). The tour guide was clueless. Some actual quotes:
"And these are desks. You can sit at them to study."
"And this is a window. It's nice to sit under it because it lets in the light."
I swear this is true. I almost wondered when she was going to start telling us what books were.

This evening was my first Massey High Table. It was quite pretentious but very fun. When everyone walks up the stairs, all wearing black academic robes, I feel like I'm in a cult. But it's fun anyway.

Afterwards, a bunch of us (about 25-30) went out to a club. I didn't stay too late because the dance floor was too crowded for me to enjoy dancing, and the other areas were too noisy for me to comfortably hold a conversation. A nice Masseyite walked me home (thanks, Mike!). And that's today. Tomorrow I'm going to try to go to karate.

G'night all!
Today was good. I went to a class I will eventually drop (the topic is not nearly as interesting as it sounded in the blurb online), hung out at Massey, had dinner with Aunt Greta, Robert, and Danyse (yum!), went BACK to Massey, and headed out with a bunch of people to a nearby pub. Much fun was had, and now I'm home. I still need to shower tonight, though.

Tomorrow will be a busy day: 2 classes, Massey house committee meeting, dinner at Massey, an information session about a tutoring thing I want to sign up for, and then... who knows. Just that will take me from 9 am to 9 pm. During the 3-hour break, I also want to photocopy the stuff for my Christianity class and do a few other errands. I'm tired just thinking about it.

One more, small note: since I got to Chestnut, I've been posting a "daily holiday" on my door every day. I change it around midnight, and it's usually something silly or funny. I found out a few people drop by every day to see "what day it is," including our floor don. I felt particularly vindicated tonight as I was putting up the new sign, when two girls who thought they were out of earshot excitedly whispered to each other, "she's changing her sign!" If anyone is interested in the holidays it has been for the last week and a half, just let me know, and I'll post them. Ditto if you want me to post the daily holidays here as well as on my door (for the benefit of those not living at Chestnut, ie: everyone).
So, yet another "what I did today" post.

In a nutshell: libraries, research, sherry, fancy dinner, meeting )

That's it for tonight! Sleep well, everyone! I'll probably be on MSN for another hour or two if anyone wants to chat.
So... I've now been here about a day and a half. I have been a busy little munchkin, meeting lots of people, doing lots of logistical type things, and even managed to write a French exam today. (The exam was 2 hours, I finished in 45 minutes. Some of it was a bit tricky, but I'm sure I did fine.)

It looks like I now have not 1, not 2, but 3 lounges I can hang out at: here at the residence, at Massey, and at the Centre for Medieval Studies. Yay for couches I can crash on!

Also, it looks like I'm going to be walking a lot. From the rez to the centre for medieval studies is about 15 minutes, from rez to Massey is about 18. By the end of tonight, I'll have walked to campus and back three times, which is about an hour and a half of walking. Eep!

And now for some other stuff I've discovered:

Residence Stuff )

Massey Stuff )

CMS Stuff )

Anyway, that's it for now. I got a copy of the Graduate Student guide, which I'm going to read through now.
NEW CONTACT INFORMATION is behind a friends-only cut. If you want to have it but are not on my friends' list, email me and I'll send it to you as soon as I am able (tomorrow, probably).

Well, I'm now set up in Toronto. Actually, I was set up at about 10 this morning, but I didn't have net access until about 10 minutes ago. Whoever decided that everyone should move in on a day when everything is closed should be dragged out into the street and shot. My current 'net situation is: 1) I can access it from my residence; 2) I can receive mail; 3) I can NOT send out mail; 4) I do NOT yet have access to the wireless network. #3 and 4 require a student card, which I can't get until tomorrow. Also, it looks like I will have to forward all my outgoing mail to my Toronto email address because Sympatico is a bastard. I'm hoping to still keep my reply-to address my sympatico one, though.

So. I'm (sort of) moved in. You see, the room I'm in was not a bedroom last year, but a study room. Therefore, some things are missing (like a bedside table, or any shelving, or a proper desk). I'm hoping to get these taken care of asap. In the meantime, I'm using the boxes I packed stuff in as a small table and shelving for my books (remember the 4 boxes of books?). I've got a "house" meeting in 15 minutes -- essentially a meeting for everyone on my floor. I've also been invited to the meeting for the graduate floors (of which I am not part), so I may check that out as well.

ALSO, I went over to Massey College today and a gang of us went to High Park. It was actually quite pretty and I did a fair amount of walking, and met about a dozen people.

Tomorrow will be a VERY busy day, but I'll deal with that when I get there. And now, a few last-minute things to do before my meeting.
