The Devil Made Me Do It

A short session this week due to the conspicuous lack of Andrew and thus the ridiculousness of the characters trying to enter orcish lands without Gorka'munda. Instead, we said farewell to Eric as he leaves the game for three months and welcomed a new player, Shawn, and his character "Lucky" Dan.


[Soon, Our Heroes (tm) will be leaving the city of Mirrarod to go north into orcish lands.]
Eric: "As far as I'm concerned, the outdoors is one large trapped area. A bee is just a very small poisoned spike trap."

[Shawn's new character, Lucky Dan, is being beat up by ruffians.]
Shawn: "Are you the sort of people who will save someone in danger?"
Adam: "Some of us are."
Julie: "Some of us will charge you."

[To clear out the ruffians, Jace casts a spell that tosses them up into the air and away.]
Robert the GM: "These guys have one hit die each!"
Adam: "They only take damage if they fall-- Okay, it might kill them."

[Jace tries to make the damage from the spell subdual. Best of intentions and all that.]
Robert the GM: "There's a cracking sound as they hit the ground."
Eric: "You have officially broken their legs -- I'm not sure it's subdual damage anymore."

[Dan is dressed in rags and bandages.]
Eric: "I hope I didn't just rescue a mummy."

[We rescue Dan from the ruffians.]
Dan: "I'm called Dan. Most people call me Lucky Dan. The irony's not lost on me."

[Discussing the situation.]
Dan: "It's one of my skills."
Baska: "Taking a beating?"
Dan: "Yes."

[Dan considers joining up with the PCs.]
Baska: "So... thrilling adventure, potential for reward, possibility of excruciating death."
Dan: "Okay!"

[Baska's not quite sure Dan's getting it.]
Baska: "So, into the potentially-excruciating death? You're okay with that?"
Dan: "Sure. I didn't have anything else planned."

[Baska buys Dan new clothes so he doesn't need to be in the rags and bandages anymore.]
Dan: "Thank you. This is the nicest thing anyone's done for me in years."
Baska: "Don't thank me yet -- we might be taking you to your potentially excruciating death."
Dan: "...Eh."

[Dan heals someone by laying on hands.]
Baska: "You are a man of many talents. Many inappropriate-seeming talents."

[Later, Baska pulls Dan aside to try to figure out why he's so keen to leave town.]
Dan: "I'm actively trying to atone for something very bad I did in the past."
Baska: "Is this a something that will come back to haunt us?"

[More of the same.]
Baska: "So long as it won't hunt us down and kill us in horrible ways."
Dan: "No, I can pretty much guarantee that it'll only be me."
Baska: "Ah. That's okay, then."

[A little fun at the table, as we consider how hair salons might work in a high fantasy world.]
Eric: "We've come up with this ingenious contraption to run an air elemental through a fire elemental to dry hair."
Air elemental: *screaming*
Shawn: "There are still a few kinks to work out."

[The PCs leave town. Note that we can't really do anything until Andrew shows up.]
Robert the GM: "Role-play small talk for three hours. Go."


And that's it for this week. Let's hope that Andrew shows up next week so we can really get this show on the road. Maybe there will even be less talk of excruciating deaths... though I wouldn't count on it.
