Murder most foul! What do you do when your companion has been accused of murdering a member of the Lightening Guard? (Other than laugh at the poor sod's end, of course?) You solve the crime and clear his name! And, in the process, discover ever deeper mysteries! Yay!

[Recall that last session, Sir Breanan was killed by Albion Riché, and then got right back up afterwards. Valentino explains the situation to Gérard.]
Valentino: "He seems very lively for a dead man."

[To accommodate the fact that Pat was not present, Kyn the GM announced that Sir Breanan had left a hastily-written note saying that he was off on a secret mission.]
Gérard: "What secret mission?"
Marietta: "This is Sir Allistair. He might be getting bread."

[Percy, Sir Breanan's servant, answers a knock at the door, only to reveal three members of the Lightening Guard, entering by force.]
Percy: "Who but a Montaignais would hold a gun at a man before noon?"

[The Lightening Guard accuse Gérard of murdering a member of their order. Marc pauses to think of a suitable reply.]
Kyn the GM: "Only in Montaigne would they sit here waiting for a decent comeback."

[Marietta and André play checkers while Gérard faces his accusers, who include Phlippe Bisset, a character from my last story.]
Marietta: (to Bisset) "That tabard doesn't look nearly as bad as yours looked yesterday."
André: "Ooh, take a free move for that one!"

[I get the feeling the interrogation of the witness isn't going quite the way Bisset would have wanted.]
Philippe Bisset: "Excuse me, we're trying to interrogate here!"
Gérard: "Yes, you are trying very well."

[After Gérard goes off with his accusers, Marietta and André decide to investigate the scene of the crime. First, though, they go to a Musketeer bar to get some heavy muscle to protect them and explain what happened.]
Musketeer: "Who has he murdered?"
Marietta: "Some ruffian."
André: "It was a Lightening Guard."
Marietta: "I stand by my original statement."

[The Musketeers discover that Gérard has been taken to Lightening Guard headquarters.]
Musketeer: "They took one of our brothers?!"
André: "He went willingly. Nobly! To face his accuser!"
Julie: "Roll that oratory and roll it well!"

[On the other hand, sometimes rolling well is overrated.]
Ian: "Wait, what am I rolling for?"
Julie: "To prevent them from storming Lightening Guard HQ and starting a civil war?"
Ian: "...I'm not putting any raises into this."

[Meanwhile, Gérard is being questioned by Inspecteur Jevalier, whom you might remember as my old character's nemesis from the first iteration of Buckle Those Swashes.]
Jevalier: "Do you always find your loyalties so easily swayed?"
Gérard: "Swayed, no. Questioned, yes."

[Pat wasn't here, so Marc apparently needed to pick up the slack on the Pat-isms.]
Gérard: "If we're going to compare apples to apples... or a peach to a peach... I think apples are out of season."

[Neither Marietta nor André have any experience in investigating murders.]
André: "If only Allistair were here to tell me the wrong way to go about it!"

[Due to lack of evidence, Gérard is released from Lightening Guard custody.]
Random Lightening Guard: "We'll keep our eyes on you, murderer!"
Gérard: "With an attitude like that, one day you will make an excellent policeman."

[We visit the home of the murdered Lightening Guard, only to catch the actual murderer red-handed ransacking the apartment in search of... something.]
Ian: "This is where we say something witty and the opening credits roll."

[We take out the murderer and discover the deceased owned a heavily reinforced safe. Gérard is unable to pick it, so Marietta uses her decay magic to turn it into dust. With the magic, naturally, comes the ensuing rush of power.]
Marietta: *moans happily*
Gérard: "This is both disturbing and strangely arousing."

[We call in Jevalier to question the woman we think is the murderer, who promptly swallows a cyanide pill, dies, and vanishes, until she is no more than a single black pearl.]
Jevalier: "...That was unexpected."
Ian: "That's an understatement even for André!"

[It turns out the black pearl is identical to the ones on Abbot André's rosary. We return to the rosary dealer to see if we can get any more information.]
André: "Why be delicate? It's not my way."

And that's it for this week! Gérard's name has been cleared, Jevalier is appeased (for the moment), and we have a whole new level of creepy fascination for André's rosary. Join us next time for the thrilling continuation!
