In last night's session, we discovered that the reigning champion of the underground fighting league -- an orc named Arjuran -- was not an orc at all, but one of the seven devils we were hunting. Colt nearly got himself killed, but that's just par for the course when you try to go rogue and be heroic without telling the rest of the party you're doing it.

In any case, one devil down, six to go!

[Erin wasn't at the game last session, so her character Agatha only just arrives in town now.]
Robert the GM: "You get into town to find an inn with blood on the door."
Agatha: "Ah. That must be where my friends are staying."

[The next morning, it's time to tell Ionos, cleric of Eliath, about the underground fighting ring.]
Baska: "I have something to tell you and you won't like it."
Erin (as Ionos): "Why do all my conversations with Baska start this way?"

[At the very end of last week's session, Baska had arranged for Gorka'munda to fight in the underground league. Not that she's told this to anyone yet.]
Baska: "Gorka'munda may be fighting there tonight."
Ionos: "But he's been out of the city all day. How did you... Oh."

[Pretty much par for the course for this group.]
Robert the GM: "What's your plan?"
Julie: "What is our plan? Do we have a plan?"
Eric: "No."

[An important but useful distinction when bringing Gorka'munda into a highly populated area.]
Julie: "I'm gonna make sure Gorka'munda doesn't kill anyone... that we don't want him to kill."

[While the fights are going on, Baska is upstairs at a bar with Gorka'munda, making sure that he doesn't get into trouble, so she completely misses this.]
Fight announcer: "The second fight: Arjuran vs. Colt Browning!"
Julie: "Damn you, Colt! Why do you do this when I'm not there to place bets?!"

[Colt has prepared a very impressive javelin to use against Arjuran, placing all sorts of enchantments on it, including 'orc bane'.]
Robert the GM: "You hit."
Adam: "Am I rolling the extra orc bane dice?"
Robert the GM: "No."
Adam: "So he's not an orc?"
Robert the GM: "...No."
Adam: "That sucks. I'm gonna die!"

[Just as Baska's coming downstairs with Gorka'munda, Arjuran charges forward and hacks at his arm with his scimitar, wiping about 1/3 of Colt's hit points in one shot.]
Julie: "I scan the crowd. Where are my companions?"
Sabina: "I'm near the ring with a beer, starting to look slightly worried."

[Colt is starting to get quite hurt.]
Julie: "It's his own fault for deciding to do this without telling Baska."

[Colt has cast a web of entanglement around Arjuran, who is now stuck. We are coming more and more to realize that there is more to this fight than we've been led to believe.]
Robert the GM: "The orc-- The thing that looks like an orc is 10 feet away from you."

[Meanwhile, the crowd is getting pissed at Colt for his unsportsmanlike behavior and start throwing tankards and shoes and rocks at him, which whittle away at his hit points 2-3 at a time.]
Adam: "I'm taking more damage from the crowd than the orc."

[The plot thickens.]
Eric: "I cast detect evil."
Robert the GM: "The orc is evil."
Eric/Ionos: "...Huh."

[Meanwhile, Colt's hit points just keep slowly draining away.]
Adam: "I will laugh so hard if I die from a tankard to the head."

[Now that most of the party has realized that the orc is not, in fact, an orc, they start entering the ring to help Colt. Bardo the Dwarf lands a mighty shot on Arjuran, and then botches her attack roll.]
Robert the GM: "You accidentally sink your ax into someone's thigh."
Sabina: "I hope it's the guy that threw the rock at me."
Robert the GM: "So do I."

[The good news is the party managed to lay low Arjuan the devil-masquerading-as-an-orc, which breaks the mind control he's had over the city. The bad news is that he now looks like an utterly terrifying (if dead) devil.]
Robert the GM: "Someone near the devil starts screaming."
Baska: "Do you have another calm emo--"
Ionos: "No."

[In the aftermath of the fight...]
Ionos: "Gentlemen, the crisis is over. Please return to your homes."
Julie: "Oh, good. You're doing it for me."

[Colt is not pleased that he's losing the money he bet on his own fight, which Worez the Bookie refuses to give back to him. Therefore Colt unattaches his "invisible" arm to reveal a weird tentacle-thing in its place and grabs Worez with it.]
Ionos: "I don't know what that is on your arm, but I'm suddenly worried there are two devils here."

[The other PCs are angry that Worez isn't giving them their winnings. Baska has a somewhat more pragmatic view.]
Colt: "He hasn't admitted that he fixed the fight to begin with."
Baska: "Well, that's just business."

And that's it for this week. Next week, the great decision: stay in town to witness the aftermath or continue hot on the trail of the six devils that have thus far evaded us?
