Today I was working on a movie from the '40s. One of the characters had a dog. A dog called Gladly.
Why, you might ask, would someone pick such a dumb name for a dog?
Well, this boy was at a shelter once for Thanksgiving and heard a woman singing, "Gladly, my cross-eyed bear," and figured the bear was named Gladly. So he named his dog Gladly also.
Please note that it took me the better part of 5 minutes of web searching (an eternity with Google, truly) to find out that the actual lyrics are from a hymn and read "Gladly, the cross I'd bear."
My brain, it hurts us, precious.

"It's not fair
To deny me
of the cross-eyed bear
That you gave to me"
...well no wonder she's angry. I'd be upset, too if someone gave me a cross-eyed bear and then took it back... the jerk.
