Okay, it's time for another round of "help Julie choose!"

Since my post earrings are still annoying me, at least in my right ear, I've decided it's time to switch to something a) titanium, and b) without a backing.

So far I'm looking at a ring with a clear gem or a smooth segment ring. Both are G23 surgical titanium. For both, I'd be looking at 1.2 mm thickness (about 16 gauge) and 8 mm diameter. They're essentially the same price (a $1 difference per ring).

Please note that these would be my "everyday" earrings, the earrings I'd want to wear just to keep my holes open. So they'd have to go with just about all my everyday clothes.

So... does anyone have a preference between these two, aesthetically? Would there be any difference in terms of how they wear over time? Anyone try one style or the other?

I use surgical steel hoops. I have a small pair, and a slightly larger pair. You can get them from most pharmacies and many jewellery stores. They work for me, but they're only a standard size, so if you're trying to keep yours open for larger gauge (or smaler, I guess, if you go by the number) holes then they wouldn't be thick enough.

I use the bead rings myself, and I like the look; the bead gives it just a touch of 'this is a fashion choice too' as opposed to just being 'look; metal things in ears.' But that could just be me. :D On a more practical note, I can roll the balls into my rings without much trouble on my own; how do the segment rings open? Would you need a pair of reverse pliers to remove the segment when you wanted to change them out?

Which are easiest to remove and re-install?

I like the look of CBR rings myself, but I always end up leaving them in for months, if not years, at a time because I'm bad at putting them in.

the price on the bead free option seems to have increased. Because I had saved the link which said $12.99 on the link, and is now $22.99... Too bad I waited to order some. *grrr* If they are charging that much per, you might be better off to get titanium with the bead option. I'd go with whichever was easier to take in and out.

Fair enough. I'll do a little more digging. Do you still want to get in on the order with me?
