I dreamt I was on Babylon 5, and someone (race unknown) sent an antimatter weapon into the heart of Epsilon 3 (the planet around which we orbited), thus blowing it up. We managed to get our armour plating up in time, avoiding destruction.
HOWEVER, we quickly realized that Epsilon 3 was likely just a trial target, and whoever did this was going to go after our homeworlds soon. The only way to fight them was to take Babylon 5 into deep space, where the First Ones might know how to stop the antimatter weapon.
The dream involved a lot of the culture of despair / panic. I don't remember most of it, but there was a criminal mastermind who was tolerated by the higher-ups because he kept morale high by redistributing stolen station gear to the less fortunate (sort of Robin Hood-esque, but with a personality more like Zuko from Avatar -- sullen and silent much of the time, with occasional bursts of anger).
There was a moment when Ivonava (remember, we're on Babylon 5) was torn between her intense desire to go back to Earth and make sure everything was all right, and her knowledge that the only way to stop the enemy was to keep going. It was a very emotional moment; I think she was crying and throwing things.
Towards the end of the dream, we were setting up for a hockey tournament, and needed to put decorations up on the walls of the gymnasium (which we were using as a rink). The decorations were going to be posters from the "good old days" before Epsilon 3 was destroyed, for which we went to this criminal mastermind, who'd already managed to "acquire" many of them.
Major emotions:
- the deep need to return home, but the knowledge that this was both impossible and unwise
- loss, despair
- the need for strong leadership, and the lack thereof
- ingenuity
I wound up pressing "snooze" for 2 hours, waiting to see how it would eventually turn out. Then Ian called, so I never did. Alas.
