An adventure getting home from New Year's

First, I must give a huge thank you to the hosts of last night's New Year's party, and especially to Maery, who found the time not only to be the gracious hostess but also to do my hair up all pretty. Thanks, everyone! I don't think I've ever seen so many people in formal wear outside of weddings and bar mitzvahs. Oh, and I also have to thank my mom, who found my prom dress after 8 1/2 years, and it still looks uber-sexy on me. (Yum... crushed velvet. This isn't the best picture, but it's okay, and this) shows a lovely shot of the back and my hair.) Oh, and eating Kyn's nuts was also a fun and tasty past-time, one which must be repeated in the future.
So. I left around 2, and took the 350 night bus with Dude Dave to Atwater. We got there around 2:30, which just so happened to be the exact time my other night bus was supposed to leave to go to Marc's place, where I would be crashing. (Marc was still at the party; I only left because my asthma was acting up.) Though I rushed over, there was a huge line of people who'd been waiting for a while, so I was confident I hadn't missed it. I got into line.
No bus.
At 2:45, two guys got into line behind me and, mostly because it was New Year's and we wanted to distract ourselves from the boredom, we started talking. Specifically the conversation turned on fantasy books, Tolkien, and other suck geek-like topics (and I didn't initiate it -- huzzah!). By 2:55, we decided the bus wasn't coming. Comparing notes, we realized that the boys were going slightly further down St. Jacques than I was, and offered to split a cab. (Heck, they even offered to pay for my share if I didn't have cash, though I did.)
They didn't give me any creepy vibes, so we did in fact split a cab. It turns out that one of them (Bruno) studies at Dawson and the other (Richard) does boffo fighting at the Tam Tams. He knows of Dude Dave's group (The Knights of the Lion), even if he doesn't know Dave in particular, and I gave him contact info for the local SCA group. Small word, no?
In the end, I got back to Marc's place 10 minutes after the bus would have put me there if it had been on time, and for only $5. And I met some nifty people. I consider this adventure a success. Now, to get ready for yet another party. (Hopefully the last for a while -- parties are tiring!)
