First off, today's breadcrumb is a list of unanswered questions that I considered using for the topic of yesterday's essay.

I'd like to thank everyone who took the time to comment on my posts yesterday. I was in a bad state, truly. Between PMS and sleep deprivation, my emotions were going absolutely haywire.

"Sleep deprivation?" you ask. Why yes! Sleep deprivation. For the first time in years, I had a dream on Tuesday night / Wednesday morning that actually jolted me into wakefulness. In a nutshell: I was in a mortal-combat-type arena, fighting someone I no longer remember. I'd managed to get him into a headlock, so that his head was at about the level of my stomach. He inhaled and breathed out some sort of energy weapon, which was intended to hit my stomach, chest, and head. I managed to twist away just enough for it to avoid the vitals but instead hit my ribs and shoulder. The pain was so intense that it woke me up, and actually took about five minutes for my brain to realize that, as I was no longer asleep, I didn't need to hurt anymore. It was 5:20 am.

Needless to say, the rest of my day was less than pleasant. My mind was constantly asking questions:
- Do I quit the job (which I have no yet started) at Nordia? Or do I try to incorporate it into job-hunting?
- Do I want to take an ESL course, and if so, which one?
- Do I take the course at CELTA? Or do I try to save the money and find jobs without it?
- Do I want to go overseas, or do I want to try to find ESL work in Montreal?

Many questions, fewer answers. Or rather, many answers that varied throughout the day depending on what I was feeling.

Thankfully, I'm doing better this morning. The plan, such as it is: call up ESL schools and ask them what kind of credentials they're looking for in their teachers. That way, I'll have a better idea of what I need, and whether it's worthwhile to take the CELTA course.

One last thing: I was a bit vague in my last post. I realize I gave the impression that I was doing the ESL so that I could spend a year overseas teaching English. While this is an option, it is not my primary option. I would rather stay in Montreal and teach if possible. I had enough problems living in Toronto for 9 months, with trips home every 6 weeks. I can only imagine what my mental state would be like after a year without direct contact, living halfway (or even a quarter-way) across the world.

TTFN for now. As Ernst would say, "have a yummy day!" (Mine will contain ice cream.)

The crucial question here being: What's the demand in MTL for native english speakers?

(It seems we both have had dreams shock us out of sleep. Weird)

Well, given that I've found at least 20 language schools on an initial pass-through of yellowpages.ca, it seems like theres a need. And if not here, there's certainly an international need.

The giants are sons and daughters of the 'Watchers'... Angels that descended to earth to defile themselves with the daughters of man… see 1 Enoch 1-36 for a great account... you'll need an ethiopic bible, the qumran texts (incomplete) or a collection of the pseudepigrapha (suggest Charlesworth).

Enoch was one man, but many books are attributed to him/written in his name to add authority to the texts. Then again, keep in mind many names in the bible are actually titles, designations, descriptions, or alterations/psuedonyms.

120 years? Figurative. You’d need a long explanation of Hebrew numerology that I can’t (unfortunately) give right now. All the numbers in the bible are representative and have meanings. 7, a complete number, 6 distinctly not complete (hence 666). 40, is a spiritually complete number, hence journeys of 40. There's more to that last one, but I'm drawing a blank. Wait till you get to the bread and fish in the NT: They're not food at all but representative of people, lol!

The two accounts of the ark are redacted together from separate traditions, as with many of the story pairs (doublets, no damn! I forgot the word. My supervisor would spank me right now!) in the bible, to unite groups of people. The flood narratives and variations are extremely common in the ANE, and actually through much of the world.

Cain’s wife: well, the bible in not a linear nor litteral story. It's a historiOGRAPHY, with is the story of history, not an exact account. It's subject to interpretation by the people writing, and rewriting history to serve your needs is not frowned on! The mentality of ANEers was not like ours today. They told stories as parables not as literalistic as we do today… The didn’t have the need for accuracy as we do today in out histories. Rather, they used history and names, etc to support their beliefs, and changing it/inconsistencies were not important, but rather the message. Ugh, this is a long explanation and goes into the whole reasoning behind the bible. I’m sorry for the abrupt answers, but that’s a ll I have time for at work.. 

I actually knew some of that already. At one point, I'm going to try to work the JEDP theory in there (hence the story pairs). There's only so much I can write in the "breadcrumbs" between essays before I'm writing essays every day. And, really, I don't *want* to write essays every day. :)

But thanks for all the tidbits. There a lot of stuff in there that I didn't know, and I love learning more about religion. You and I should sit down for coffee at some point: I haven't seen you in months.
