So, yesterday afternoon Wil Wheton (sp?) was at Melange Magique. I personally had no interest in seeing Wil himself, but many of my friends were going, and I wanted to see them, so I went. Yan was also working at Melange, and I promised I'd go visit to pick up the book he recommended to me. So away I went. There were, indeed, many people there. Not only did I get to see my friends, but I also got to see two members of the Friends Jr. squad, The Turkey and The Pumpkin. So much cuteness should not be allowed to exist in one place... it destabilizes the universe.

The people who were planning on seeing Serenity went off to dinner, but I decided to skip out. Reason the first: I had karate, and I'm loathe to miss it. Reason the second: spending a dinner with people who are even bigger geeks than I am is not my idea of a good time. :) Let's face it, the fanboy/fangirl community is not necessarily known for their social apitude. So away I went to Verdun, leaving the browncoats to eat asian food (appropriately enough).

I realized I had about a half-hour before karate, so I spun by Blue Monday to eat and chat with Chantal. In addition to a sandwich, I tried a date square. They're tasty, but not as tasty as the brownies. If you haven't tried the brownies yet, what are you waiting for??? Go, bask in their yumminess!

Karate itself was good as always. Other than the warmup, the class wasn't particularly physically strenuous. On the other hand, it did require the spending of a lot of mental energy, as I tried to memorize six different movements that can be called at a second's notice. This will require some home-time drilling, no doubt. Yet again, people have asked me how I memorize things so quickly. In all honesty, while I know how I do it, I'm not sure I could teach it to someone else so that they could do it. My system just comes instinctively to me.

Anyway, after that I headed back to Melange. I decided to start reading the book Yan recommended on the metro over. By the time I reached Guy-Concordia, I'd already read 25 pages. (Incidentally, as of right now, I'm up to page 143. I need a way to get more money for books!)

Just as I stepped out of the metro, the heavens opened and let loose a torrential downpour. I quickly discovered that the shirt I was wearing (very pretty, but 100% poly) did nothing against the rain. Furthermore, jeans dragging on the ground soak up lots of water. But I decided that instead of fighting, I'd just walk, head held high despite my increasingly wet nature. By the time I'd walked the 3 blocks to Melange, I could have been mistaken for a form of fish, I'm certain.

I hung around Melange for about an hour, until they closed. I had some nice conversation with Yan and his co-worker (whose name I have since forgotten. Natasha? Tamara? Something like that). I continually find it amusing that I can converse with pagans and have them accept my opinions, all while never having practiced paganism. This is what comes from an overabundance of reading, I suppose. :)

Despite my best efforts, Yan decided to sucker out and go home after his shift was over. Instead, I walked over to Concordia where the Serenity screening was going on and discovered that there was still about a half-hour until the movie ended. So I sat around outside, chatting it up with Scarlet and Sebastien (who I haven't seen in a year and a half), and generally enjoying myself. When the movie was over, I snuck into the theatre and surprised everyone. Hi, everyone!

The Browncoats and other assembled fandom went off to Intertainment Cafe for bubble tea and post-movie energy release. It is clear that the Cafe was not used to having 30 people walk in and order at once. But they gave it the "old college try," and all worked out in the end. We also discovered that I.C. has booth karaoke with a huge selection and good prices ($25 per hour plus $2.50 per person). Do I hear karaoke in our near future? I think so!

Finally, I headed out with Ian, Jimmy, and Miranda, and walked with them as far as Atwater before jumping on the metro and heading home. And there I was, and here I am, and now it is morning. (Well, afternoon now, I suppose.)

I still have no real plans for today beyond enjoying a day off work. If you want to do something, call me or email me. Tomorrow I'm heading up to 3Cs and staying overnight until Sunday. Sunday afternoon I believe I'm gaming, and then possibly going to see the fireworks afterwards. That's as far in the planning stages as I've got.

That's it for now, folks! Sorry this went on so long!
