Who knew that life gets so much easier once all the papers are handed in? Today has been, in almost all respects, a fabulous day.
1. The "movie ticket" mystery has been solved. It turns out that our floor didn't use all of the fees we paid at the beginning of the year, but they're not allowed to refund us in cash. So our floor's don got us all $20 of gift certificates to famous players. Perhaps not as glamorous as a secret admirer, but I'll take it.
2. I got (almost) all the rest of my clothes today -- the ones which needed to be altered. I'm now up one bra (the other needs some minor alterations and will be mailed to Montreal), a pair of black shoes, a pair of dressy black pants, and some sexy jeans. I am increadibly pleased to note that for the first time in 4 or 5 years, I have not gone up in pant sizes over the past year. Moreover, I've actually gone DOWN! Last year, I bought size 10-12 pants / 33 jeans. This year, the size 8 pants and size 30 jeans are slightly loose. Yay!
3. More on the "clothing" theme: I wore my lovely new jeans to Massey, and one of my (female) friends complimented me on my "cute butt." I think that's one of the first times I've ever been complimented on a specific body part, so yay for that as well!
4. I found out one of my course grades: an "A" in Akbari's Naming the Rose. Not only that, but Akbari mentioned in her email, "I think you have a real talent for writing about complex issues of space and how diagrams function -- most people have a really hard time with this stuff, as you know." So not only have I been complimented on my body today, but also on my mind. Yay!
5. My aunt took me to the Red Tea Box today. The tea was nice, and the cake was very, very tasty. It's more expensive than Camellia Sinensis, but worth the money. (Though, again, I'm glad my aunt was paying.)
6. I've been meaning to note for about a week that all the trees and flowers are in bloom. It's warm and pretty outside, but not stifling hot. It feels like spring! Yay!
7. I said a number of "farewells" and "au revoires" today, most notably to: a) my aunt, b) a security guard I've befriended at Chestnut, c) the uber-cool bartender at Massey. I'm not sure if this counts as a "yay" thing, but it's nice to see that people have become attached to me.
8. Speaking of people attached to me, I've gotten many confirmations for my going-away party tomorrow. (9 pm, Duke of York. If you're reading this, you're invited. Yes, you too.) To put this in context, I was never popular in high school, and sort of gave up on the "throwing parties" thing long ago. It's really gratifying to have so many people say they'll come out to see me one last time and to wish me well.
So that's today. Tomorrow I've got a number of errands to do, both at Chestnut and on campus. The party is at night, and I'm sure I'll find something to do with the rest of my time. There's always Game of Thrones. For now... g'night all!
