I'm thinking of joining a
new karate dojo. It's relatively nearby and part of the
JKA (an international karate organization), which means if I get my teaching certificate through them, it'll be valid at any other JKA school.
Their spring session starts today. On their website, it says to email them if you want to join or to try a trial class. So I did. On Monday. I haven't gotten a reply yet. I called yesterday and left a message on their machine. No reply. Called again today and hung up when I got the machine. Called the community center where they train, only to be led on a wild goose chase through their automated system.
I'm thinking of just dropping by today a little before their classes start and asking the sensei whether I can observe. I'd like to get a sense of their classes, especially the more advanced classes, before I throw in my lot with them. I'd especially like a chance to talk to their sensei.
My question to my readers: Given that they haven't answered me all week, do you think it would be considered odd for me to just show up unannounced? Or should I given them more time to reply? Or should I just give up on this school altogether? What say you, o wise and knowledgeable LJ brain?
Edited to add: The sensei called me back. She seems like a very nice woman. Tonight they're just doing registration, but she invited me to come tomorrow and try a beginner class and observe some of the other ones. So I think that's what I'll do.
