At the invitation of a few people, I actually went out to the midnight Harry Potter book launch last night. I arrived at Chapters around 10:15, wandered around, and was on the verge of leaving when I bumped into Kristen. So we wandered some more and checked out the various activities. To be frank, they weren't very interesting: hat-decorating, face-painting, etc. They had gone out and acquired an owl (caged) for the occasion, but this was counterbalanced for me by the fact that they had also acquired several cats (also caged), thus preventing me from spending much time on the second floor. Kristen bought a "polyjuice potion" from Starbucks. I have no idea what was in it, but there was some green powder, some brown powder, and it was topped with mini-marshmallows. Fairly tasty, actually. Seeing some of the costumes, and especially the very-well-made cloaks, I had to wonder, "how many people here go to Bicollines?" (a live-action D&D game)

Around 11 I decided I was bored with Chapters and meandered over to Indigo. I immediately met Rachel in full costume but also in full busy mode, so I let her go. Crystal was serving cupcakes and other treats, so I didn't disturb her either. On the other hand, Charles was there and bored, so we decided to give in to my apple crumble cravings and get some pie. We went to Nickles (I know, I know... but it was the closest place to the store), had some lovely conversation mostly involving bardic stories from me and theatre stories from him, and then made our way back. We arrived with a half-hour until midnight, so to amuse ourselves we started mocking book titles in the New Age / Religion section of the store. That kept us occupied until the grand countdown to New Years the official book release. At that point, they kicked me out of the store because I was not, in fact, buying a book.

On my way towards the metro, the streets were full of people shouting "Harry Potter," waving wands, swirling capes, and just generally being geeky. I love my city.

Then the universe decided I shouldn't take the metro home )
