Adrenaline for breakfast
Jan. 26th, 2007 11:34 amThe scenario: I had a job interview this morning at 9 am. Based on past experience, I knew I'd need to leave the house no later than 8:15, and preferably closer to 8:00, in order to make it. "No problem," thought I. I usually set my weekday alarm for 7 o'clock, which would give me plenty of time to get ready and maybe even press snooze once or twice.
However... due to staying out a bit late Wednesday night, I'd set my alarm for 8:00 yesterday morning and completely forgot to change it back.
So this morning my alarm went off. I looked at my clock. 8:00. 8:00? 8:00! It was as though someone had poured ice water on my bed. I bolted upright. 8:00! I need to be out of the house now!!!
They say you learn something new every day. Today I learned that the time it takes me to get dressed, brush my teeth, and be out the door, from opening my eyes until closing the garage door behind me, is 8 minutes. Not that I'd care to repeat the experience.
It was, shall we say, an inauspicious start to the day.
