This afternoon, I went with Ian to visit Kris, Nancy, and Isabelle. Isabelle is now that that phenominal stage where anything she does is automatically cute. It just is. Though perhaps exposing her to zombie-killing video games at this point is a foolish plan.

Afterwards, I had people over to play in a Game of Thrones game. We had some last-minute character creation to do, so we only got about an hour of game-time in, but it was fun regardless. For those who have read the books, we're starting essentially at the beginning of book 1. Eric and I are playing nephew and neice of Tywin Lannister, while Dude is playing one of our household knights (of low birth). Sam is playing an Iron-born who became enamoured with the culture of the rest of Westeros and eventually decided to join the Night's Watch. Ian's the GM.

After the game was over, Eric stuck around and we had a lovely conversation ranging over many topics, most notaby religion. Be warned: I've been thinking a lot about religion lately, and will likely post something big and heavy on the topic in the next few days.

On the subject of religion, I've got a bar mitzvah to go to tomorrow morning (yes, on Labour Day), so I should probably get to bed. G'night all.
The bar mitzvah I attended this morning was held at a Reform synagogue. Oddly enough, I'd never been to a Reform service before. Though I have not attended any synagogue services for many years (with the exception of bar mitzvahs and weddings), the ones I have attended have all been Orthodox. To borrow and contort a phrase from Good Omens: "No, when it came to avoiding going to synagogue, the synagoge she stolidly avoided going to was Zikron Kidoshim, no-nonsense Orthodox, and she wouldn't have dreamed of avoiding going to any other."

So, a few thoughts and reflections on Reform services )

Here's the deal, people: I've got a lot of spare time now that I'm job-hunting, and I'm in the mood to write new bardic pieces. The only problem I've got is that I'm hitting writer's block in terms of ideas. So I'm taking requests. If there's a piece you'd like me to write, let me know and I'll see what I can do. I'm particularly interested in song / poem ideas, but if you want a specific style, I'll try to accomodate.

I make no promises, but I'm hoping this will kick-start my inspiration and something decent will come of it.

So... who wants me to write something for them?
