Think *your* day was bad?

No, for once I'm not talking about me! I'm talking about my dad, who spent over 24 hours in airport hell. He sent a few reports from the road, and they're a great read if you've got a few minutes to spare. If you think your day was bad, read on. Unless you've just lost your job or are suffering through a severe illness in the family, this will probably make you feel better about your current situation. At least, that's what it did for me.

Offer of assistance for IDD autocrats

I realized this morning that there are two local SCA events coming up. I'm a bit out of touch with the administrative side of IDD, so until last night I didn't even know who was putting in bids. (Still unsure about Flames, but that's life.)

Before my recent sojurn into Toronto, there was a period of about three years when narry a local event would come by where I wouldn't be in charge of something. Having not been in charge of anything at Crown or 3Cs, I find myself with a jumpy baloon hand.

So, to any potential autocrats for future IDD events, please consider this an official offer of help. I have experience running A&S competitions and service for feast, and would happily do so again. I have volunteered, though not organized, the following areas, and would be willing to try my hand at organizing them: set-up, take-down, after-dinner dishes washing, A&S classes, and entertainment at feast.

To nip two criticisms in the bud:

First, no, I haven't spoken to you in person about this. I only realized the situation this morning, and wanted to make my offer public as soon as I was able. Consider this post a prelude to an in-person conversation. I'll find you or you can find me: let's talk.

Second, no, I won't feel bad if I'm not organizing anything. I realize that people may have already chosen their event teams, or that they may find people more qualified than I am. That's fine. If I'm not running a department at an event, I'll happily volunteer wherever I'm needed. I've been around long enough to know that there is always a need for volunteers, and I have no problems if I'm not the "head honcho." This is an offer of help, not an obligation to accomodate me.
