Winds of Vesperia

When everything looks bleak and wintery... it's probably about accurate, really. It doesn't help when our main ally gets captured by the enemy, leaving us to face the hordes of winter alone. Oh, well. That's why we're the heroes. And level 14.


[As last session ends, Nessa is on watch. All night.]
Kyn the GM: "It's not sleep -- it's snoozing!"
Tony: "I'm resting my eyes one at a time, but then they both got tired."

[Amber is dealing with the aftereffects of sleeping with Selene.]
Kyn the GM: "Intellectually, you understand you're going into withdrawal. Physiologically, though..."

[Lady Selene is not there when Amber wakes up.]
Julie: "She can't be far -- it's her grove."
Kyn the GM: (unconvinced) "Uh-huh."

[We discover where Selene went.]
Pat: "Someone caught me by surprise?"
Kyn the GM: "Yes."
Pat: "With my pants down."
Kyn the GM: "Well, with your pants off."

[Selene and Tam go flying in the form of eagles.]
Lady Selene: "Today the sun is ours, the sky is ours... and there's a rabbit."

[Tam is still squeamish about the idea of killing innocent living things.]
Lady Selene: "Majestic prey. You do realize it's an acorn?"
Tam: (feigning surprise) "Tasty acorn. It's mine!"
Lady Selene: "...Of course."

[When she finds her apprentice Mika, Amber realizes that sleeping with Selene has had certain unintended consequences.]
Kyn the GM: "Amber gets +2 charisma for sleeping with Selene."
Tony: "I only got +1 charisma."
Kyn the GM: "She was a dryad. This is a nymph."
Tony: "I'm working my way up the ladder."

[We make plans to attack the Winter Court.]
Kyn the GM: "Bobby raises his hand. Now that he has a name, he can speak."

[As we're planning, we're attacked by shadelings under the command of Lord Brim the Gloombringer. He snags Tam with a cold iron chain. Tam grabs it and starts pulling him toward the ground.]
Kyn the GM: "How smart is this guy? *rolls* Not smart -- he doesn't let go of the chain that'll reappear in his hand next round."

[Meanwhile, some satyrs are going after the Sundered Women. Amber stops them with the expedient of Black Tentacles.]
Kyn the GM: "They didn't get even one of the Sundered Women. Bravo for you guys."

[In the aftermath of the battle -- which we naturally won -- Bobby the smith goes to work reforging the collars and chains our enemies were planning on using. Nessa plays bardic music to assist him.]
Kyn the GM: "'Whistle while you work.' That's the song he asks you to play. Over and over."
Pat: "'What happened?' 'He fell on the knife he was making forty-seven times.'"

[Tam returns to the ship to tell it to come inland, now that the blizzards have stopped.]
Captain Jason Keeneye: (unimpressed) "Woo-hoo, you defeated a tree."
Julie: "See, that's how Amber feels."
Tam: "Were you there?!"

[We have a small problem: there are still all our elven ex-slaves to deal with.]
Tam: "What's your idea?"
Captain Jason Keeneye: "Sir, that's not how the chain of command works."
Tam: "Humor me."

[Selene notices the elves.]
Lady Selene: "Who are these people?"
Tam: "...They're our people."

[Tam devolves into a standard Pat character, at least momentarily.]
Tam: "I don't know. The Lieutenant said something, and I don't... whose idea was this?!"
Captain Jason Keeneye: "Yours."

[Tam finally gets around to telling Selene about the elves. She is not impressed.]
Lady Selene: "So you want us to jail them."
Tam: "More like a refugee camp."
Lady Selene: "That they can't leave."
Tam: "Until they die."
Lady Selene: "I'm almost certain that's what a jail is."

[Lady Selene eventually agrees. But it takes a while.]
Tam: "I've really gotta brush up on my people skills."
Lady Selene: "You've really gotta brush up on your 'knowing what's going on' skills."

[Tam returns with the ship and its crew.]
Amanda Eastwind, Nessa's co-pilot: "Specialist Tam is an excellent scout. He's an expert on solo missions. Emphasis on solo."

[Tam has had enough of being in charge.]
Kyn the GM: "There's still the question of what's the plan."
Tam: "...Lieutenant."

[We prepare to attack the Winter Court.]
Nessa: "If you don't damage the ship, I'll sleep with you."
Captain Jason Keeneye: "Works for me."

[We fly above the Winter Court, only to encounter some things we hadn't expected.]
Captain Jason Keeneye: "I recommend targeting the massive walking ice sculptures."
Nessa: "Walkers, you have your targets!"

[Meanwhile, the ground forces engage Tresil, King of Songs, and his minions.]
Pat: "I didn't think the King would come off his throne."
Kyn the GM: "Why wouldn't he?"
Tony: "He's a proactive sorta guy."
Kyn the GM: "That's why he's the king."

[We leave most of our ground forces to face the minions while the PCs move forward to storm the castle proper.]
Sergeant Anthis "Rabbitfoot" Rivercrest: "You said you needed someone else -- take me!"
Nessa: "...All right."
Kyn the GM: "He's smiling from ear to ear."


And that's it for this time! Next time we face the Queen of Winter and our almost certain deaths! Yay!
