The Devil of Envy is dead! Long live the... well, never mind. The important thing is that the Devil of Envy is died in a combat-heavy game and now we can all get back to the matter at hand, getting paid.

[We're pretty sure that the Devil of Envy is somewhere inside the manor of Lord Orcam. The question is, how to we get to it?]
Andrew: "So we're gonna sneak in?"
Julie: "I think our plan is to storm through the front door."
Eric: "I don't think we have any other choice."
Adam: "This is a momentous day: Andrew is the one who wants to sneak in!"

[The problem with game logistics is that sometimes they don't work in your favor.]
Adam: "It's still the same day, isn't it?"
Julie: "Yeah."
Adam: "Damn, I have no more spells!"
Eric: "I'm sorry, would you like us to give the devil a few days?"

[We go back to Vershniki HQ to get some real city guards to give our break-in some legal authority. Note that Lord Orcam's son led a mob of people to storm the HQ back in the early days of the Devil of Envy.]
Ionos: "Can you spare any man? [beat] Do you have any men who won't volunteer?"

[We stopped last session before the break-in because we didn't have either of our combat characters with us. This week, we had them both.]
Robert the GM: (to Andrew) "You're gonna make this a very different session."
Eric: "Specifically, you're gonna make this a longer and potentially survivable session."

[Speaking with Nur, head of the Vershniki, Ionos needs to get a few things straight.]
Ionos: "Do you actually have legal authority to break into someone's home on suspicion of wrongdoing?"
Nur: "...Sure!"
Eric: "Sense motive."

[We return to Orcam Manor with a few Vershniki in tow.]
Andrew: "I kick down the gate!"
Robert the GM: "It's already broken, but feel free to kick it some more."

[Andrew rolls extremely well on Gorka'munda's burst check to break down the front door.]
Eric: "You knock down the front door so hard that it takes down the back door."
Robert the GM: "You are wearing half a door on each wrist."

[Gorka'munda and some Vershniki storm the front door while the rest of the PCs wait at the back door.]
Andrew: "I'm going in a straight line!"
Eric: "Well, turn before you reach us and crush us."

[Meanwhile, the back door is locked. Bardo decides to take matters into her own hands.]
Adam: "Our lockpicker will open the door with her ax."

[Sometimes it's good to have a party member with lots of hit points and very little sense of self-preservation.]
Andrew: "Through the door!"
Adam: "Trap-detector: go!"

[We reach the door to the room we think the Devil is in. Gorka'munda, yet again, breaks down the door.]
Robert the GM: "You are now wearing a half-door on each wrist and one around your neck."
Andrew: "I am Gorka'munda, collector of doors!"

[Lord Orcam is in the room we just broke into. He isn't pleased.]
Lord Orcam: "What are you doing?!"
Baska: "We're looking for the nicest house in the neighborhood, and I'm sorry to say, your neighbor's is way nicer."

[Behind an illusory wall, Gorka'munda encounters the Devil of Envy. Recall that Gorka'munda is an orog: half-orc, half-ogre.]
Robert the GM: "There's a 10 1/2-foot-tall monster standing next to you."
Adam: "You look down on it."

[Gorka'munda and Bardo flank the Devil. Which would have been great if a second devil didn't jump out of Lord Orcam and attack Bardo from behind.]
Andrew: "They flanked our counter-flank!"

[The Devil breaks itself down into a number of very small, very fast creatures. We manage to take most of them out, except for one gnawing at Gorka'munda's neck. He decides to pay it back in kind.]
Andrew: "Critical eat!"

[The few remaining mini-devils fly up through the roof and away... somewhere. There's only one way to figure out where they've gone before we lose the trail forever.]
Andrew: "I jump through the roof."
Robert the GM: "Oh, I love you."

[The devil has fled to Vershniki HQ. We follow it.]
Robert the GM: "The door's closed."
Eric: "Gorka'munda doesn't even slow down."
Robert the GM: "I was wondering if you were gonna knock."
Eric: "He does. Once."

[Running up the stairs, Our Heroes (tm) are stopped by some mind-controlled Vershniki. Rapidly running out of spells, Jace casts color spray, which causes them to become temporarily dazed and blinded.]
Eric: "Congratulations, you have pepper-sprayed the cops."

[We find the Devil of Envy in one of the upper-floor rooms. After a number of failed hit attempts, Gorka'munda rages.]
Andrew: "Intimidate checks for everyone!"
Eric: "Yeah, I'm kind of intimidated."

[After quite a bit of combat, we manage to take down the Devil of Envy. Gorka'munda is still raging.]
Robert the GM: "There's an eerie calm that settles over the room."
Andrew: "Not for three more rounds."

[Everything's fine. The main plot is resolved. Could we possibly be missing anything?]
Adam: "A spider-creature jumps out and we're like, 'Oh, yeah, that loose end...'"

And that's it for this week! Next time... we're on the trail of the Devil of Greed! (But first, payment. It's all about the greed...)
