Europe update, June 16

Hey gang,
Okay, normally I try to avoid doing updates two days back-to-back, but I'll make an exception for today. That's because, as awesomely amazing as the Alps have been so far, they just got better!
Today I went up the Aiguille du Midi (finally figured out how to spell it, too!). WOW! There were still a few clouds, but they were all below me as I stood there, 3800 metres or so above sea level. The snow on the mountains gleamed in the sun. It was absolutely spectacular!
I had some tea at Helbronner point (the last stop before Italy, about 3200 metres above sea level) and met two sets of really interesting people. I had lunch at the Plan du Midi telecabine station (about 2400 metres above sea level) and had -- get this -- mulled wine! Well, not quite mulled, but at least hot. Yum! (Yeah, I know, it was a little early for alcohol, but I'd been jonesing for some hot wine since I saw a sign for it last night.)
Now it's about 2 pm here. I've got to do some postcard and souveneir shopping, and I may do some hiking this afternoon. Tomorrow I leave early (train at 7:30 am) for Strasbourg, and only arrive at 5:30 pm. Ick! Ah well, this extra day as DEFINITELY been worth it.
As a note to everyone back home: I will want to see movies when I get back. I can think of 4 off the top of my head (Kingdom of Heaven, Star Wars III, The Interpreter, Batman Begins), and I hate going to movies alone. I will also want to eat some "Montreal meals" that I've been missing (eg: smoked meat, poutine, sushi / asian food which I've avoided while I've been here, etc.). I don't like eating alone either. So I'm looking for company! Send me emails or call me when I get home. Or comment on my LJ.
Finally, I have presents for the following people: Ian, Marc (I know you're not here, but I'll wait), Yan, Ricky, Breadbox, Kim (Ian's sister-in-law), Isabelle (well, I'm picking it up today), Dad, Jeff, Grandpa, and Mom. I will ONLY give presents in person, so arrange a way to see me, if you're not one of the people I see regularly anyway!
I come home in less than 4.5 days. Yes, I'm counting to the half-day now. Of the days that are left, only 2 (counting today) don't involve traveling. I'll live, though.
Hugs to everyone! See you all soon!
Julie
