Europe update, June 10

Hello all my faithful readers!
I have spent much of the time since I last wrote in Carcassonne, a completely-preserved medieval walled city. (The rest of the time, incidentally, was spent on trains.) Thankfully, nothing exciting has happened to me since I last wrote, so this will be a fairly tame update. No day-name, though I suppose if I had to name it something, I'd call it "Medieval Magic Day."
SCAdian readers, I have a new plan: become really rich and move Pennsic out to Carcassonne. (Can't be more than, what, a few hundred million dollars? Surely no more than a billion!) Imagine the castle battles! Imagine merchants' row between the walls! Imagine the courts in a real castle!
Yeah... I fell in love with Carcassonne. The place is amazing! Especially with a SCAdian's trained sense of blocking out modern anachronisms, the place is absolutely magical, especially at night. My favorite place was walking between the two walls of La Cite (the medieval village). At night, it's all lit up and beautiful. Utterly magical.
I've met some people and had some good food. I enjoyed Castoullet, which is an Occitaine stew made with white beans, vegetables, and meat (duck and pork, I believe). SO filling! Though my meals in Carcassonne were not the best I've ever eaten, they were definitely the most satisyfing!
And now I am in Arles, in Provence. I have checked into my hotel. It's a one-star hotel and delivers about what you'd expect. I have a room to myself, which is nice after the hostel in Carcassonne (though the hostel was a great place with lots of cameraderie!). On the other hand, the bed is really mushy. My guidebook describes the hotel as "spartan," and I'd say that's a pretty apt description. Ah well. Not really planning on spending much time in my room anyway, so it should be all right.
I'm here for the next two days, and leave on Monday morning for Chamonix in the Alps. There are all sorts of Roman ruins here which look cool. They also do bull-fights on the weekend! I'm going to try to get a ticket.
That's about it for now. I'm sure you're happy you didn't have to read another epic-length update from me, for once. :)
Hugs to everyone! Soon I shall be home and be able to tell you all about my exploits in person! (Remember, June 20th is the magic day of my homecoming.) Hugs and more hugs!
Julie
