I had a rather humbling experience yesterday, rolling up a new character for Kyn's D&D game. Most of you know that I'm playing a rather high-powered D&D game, wherein I'm playing an 18th-level cleric who routinely deals 15d6 damage in a single spell and can destroy 30 hit dice of undead without much trouble at all. One of our players recently dealt 750 points of damage in a single attack, and another routinely tops 50 on his intimidate checks. It's nice to be powerful.

So yesterday I made a 2nd-level rogue. Even rolling well, I wound up with a mighty 12 hit points. She can die if my 18th-level cleric looks at her funny.

Don't get me wrong, I like low-level campaigns. They're a lot of fun and deal with an entirely different level of challenge from high-level ones. That said, there's a certain amount of paranoia when you know you can be killed by the errant swipe of a bear's paw.

Still, it's nice to be powerful sometimes.
