eveglass: (hug me)

First, an apology to the Ems. I had intended to come, truly. I even brought my new clothes home so that you guys would be the first to see them. But I realized that I absolutely needed tonight to do research if I want to get my papers done on time. I was there in spirit, and I hope Em the Younger got my phone message before she headed off to the concert. Hugs to both of you!

Today I got up nice and early on time to go tutor. Just before I left the house, I got a surprise call from Ian. Yay for unexpected chatting time with friends!

Anyway, today's tutoring subject was biology. People who know me well or who knew me in high school know how much I love biology. For those who don't, I will explain the heavy sarcasm of the last sentence. Though I took biology as a mandatory class in grade 9, it was one of the few classes I ever considered not completing. An overactive imagination combined with a phobia of blood and needles made me literally feel the blood coursing through my body while we were studying the cardiovascular system (it was one of the more unpleasant sensations in my life), and I'm convinced some form of subconscious suggestion made me get pneumonia when we were studying the pulminary system. That said, however, today's tutoring was actually one of our more enjoyable sessions. I was able to do what I was good at (read: pick out the important points from a text) and use my background knowledge to help my student gain a Deep and Meaningful Understanding of muscles. Or, if not deep and meaningful, then at least sufficient for her 11th grade class.

After a brief 45-minute read-through of Monday's Latin (it's not ready, but at least I know how many words I need to look up), I went up to go off with the Aunts for shopping trip #2. We went back to the same store I bought all the clothes yesterday (Finishing Touches) so that I could get the pants and jeans altered. (This is why there are no full-length pictures of me in the black pants. I suspect they were at least 8 inches too long.)

While we were there, we did more shopping. (Of course. How silly of me to have thought it could be otherwise.) In the end, I left with yet more Spoilz. No pictures today, so a verbal update will have to do:
- a fun green jacket with golden sequened starbursts (it actually looks very nice)
- a plum, v-neck top that can go with either jacket
- a chocolate-brown, v-neck top to go with the green jacket
- a sheer, brown, sleeveless blouse to, yes, go under the green jacket
- a cream tank top to go under the sheer blouse or be worn on its own
- a really fantastic cream linen skirt. Linen is the wonder-fabric.

Of course, we discovered that the shoes I bought yesterday (cream coloured, see the pictures with the jeans) actually look absolutely perfect with the cream skirt. So now there is talk of either a) my keeping these shoes and ALSO getting black shoes, or b) my aunt keeping the cream shoes (she likes them too). I'll be sure to keep you posted about the latest exciting developments.

All told, I'm quite pleased with my spoils from the two days. I have two skirts, a pair of black pants, a pair of jeans (so, 4 bottoms overall for those who are counting), 4 shirts (5 if you count the tank top), 2 jackets, 1 or 2 pairs of shoes, a necklace and a bag. (Also two new bras, a bra pad, a haircut, and various small accessories.) Almost all of them can be mixed and matched. All I can say is that I'm glad it wasn't on my tab. :)

Onwards with our narrative...

I got home at about 3:30, revved to go to the Ems' concert. But, on arrival home, I realized that I have massive amounts of work to do, and also I had no clean shirts. So I decided to be a bad munckin to my friends and stay home to study and do laundry. In all fairness, the monthly mood swings were hitting me and I might not have been much company anyway.

I was very upset about the situation (mostly the workload), and had to use every trick I knew to get myself into a decent state of mind. Two things that always seem to work for me are 1) showers, and 2) cleaning my room. I'm sure I've explained the shower thing before (if not, remind me and I'll talk about it later). In terms of cleaning my room, it's very odd, but I find that if my room is tidy, I'm calmer. Usually it takes no more than 10 minutes to pick up my clothes and straighten the piles of books and papers, but it makes a huge difference to my mood. Has anyone else noticed something similar?

Right. So with my mood somewhat lifted, I typed up some notes and read through almost all of my last primary source (the Pontifical I was complaining about yesterday). I'm 3 pages from the end, which can easily be done with a spare 15 minutes. All I have left to do for this paper (probably) is read the introductions to the two consecration rituals, and perhaps some quick background research on the two churches. My goal is still to start writing by Wednesday. During all this note-taking, I managed to do laundry and (impossibly) fit the sheets back on my bed on the first try. I am so glad I probably won't need to change them again.

Finally, I discovered that someone at Massey was showing the pilot episode of Twin Peaks tonight. It had been a while since I watched the show, so I decided to go. I stayed for an hour and remembered how utterly mad David Lynch must have been when he worked on the show. After an hour, I had reminded myself enough to know that no matter how long I watched, it wouldn't make any sense. So, figuring that confusion was an enlightened state and that I should cut my loses while I was only confused and not raving mad, I came back home.

And here I am, at long last. If you feel tired after reading the post, imagine how I feel having gone through it all. Tomorrow I'll be roleplaying for most of the day. After that... who knows. I haven't thought that far ahead. For now, my bed (with freshly-changed sheets) is calling to me, and its lure is irresistable. G'night all.
