Adventures in baking: Fudgy brownies
Sep. 1st, 2010 11:13 amMy aunt is an excellent baker. So when she sent me a recipe for "the best brownies she's ever tasted," I knew I had to give it a shot. I made it the first time with Marc's mom, and they came out really well.
Here's the rub: the recipe says you should bake them 20-25 minutes, until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out with only some moist crumbs. My aunt has it listed for 30 minutes; when Marc's mom and I made them, it was closer to 18. So when I had them in the oven today, I was getting really worried that they weren't done enough, even at the 35 minute mark. Sometimes I'd put in the toothpick and it would come out almost clean, but sometimes there would be huge gobs of chocolate on it.
Then I realized that there's a metric whackload (that's a technical term, kids) of chocolate chips in there. (I didn't have chocolate chunks and used what was on hand.) What was on the toothpick wasn't batter, but melted chocolate chips. So I'm guessing that there's overbaked. Hopefully that won't be too much of a problem and they'll still be okay for eating. Because if I messed these up, I'll be very sad.
Edited to add: Despite my worries, the brownies came out very tasty. (Of course, vanilla ice cream can only improve things. *grin*)
For those who would like to try, the recipe is behind the cut.
