If you had three minutes to leave your house...

I started reading an interesting book at the library today. It's called Stuff: Compulsive Hoarding and the Meaning of Things. The thing that drew me in was the first sentence on the inside flap. I'm paraphrasing from memory, but it was something like, "What would be the first items you'd grab if your house was on fire? Now imagine feeling that way about every item you own."

The book is fascinating in itself (the authors are very thoughtful and present compulsive hoarding in all its complexity and ambiguity), but it led me onto a tangential thought: What would I grab if I had three minutes to evacuate my house because the building was burning down?

This is actually a question I've asked myself before (it came up during Hurricane Katrina and the evacuation of New Orleans) and I've got a pretty well-thought-out answer to it. But I realized that I don't know what Marc's answer would be, and he doesn't know mine. To me, this is one of those things that I absolutely should talk with him about, because it's just as likely that I'll be out of the house in an emergency and won't be able to get to my well-thought-out items.
