Dec. 15th, 2008

Yesterday I got together with Eric and Jing to watch yet more Babylon 5. (And to win a game of Monopoly, but that's a different story.)

On the docket yesterday was:
1. Survivors
2. By Any Means Necessary
3. Signs and Portents
4. Grail (not strictly plot-driving, but our next important episode is a 2-parter and we only wanted to watch one more episode)

Some reflections. Warning: spoilers )
As of today, I am officially no longer on probation at my job. (The probation counts from when I signed on as a full-time employee, Sept. 15.) What this means is that my salary goes up about 16%, I get full access to the benefits plan (which is useful, given that I've got a dentist's appointment on Thursday), and I can start banking my overtime. I did an interview with one of the senior managers, who was very nice and ran through a standard questionnaire.

The only difficulty I foresee in the future is going to Pennsic. Policy here is that you can only take your vacation time after your one-year anniversary (or, for me, Sept. 15). Pennsic, as all my SCA friends know, is the last week of July and the first week of August. To whit, before my one-year anniversary by about 6 weeks. My boss doesn't have a problem with it (assuming no one more senior than me has requested the time off), but senior management doesn't want to set a precedent.

We will see what happens.

Anyway, yay for pay raises and benefits.

(On a semi-related note, now that I've gotten all my 100+ userpics back, I will be using this icon for work-related posts that aren't specifically about subtitle gaffes.)
