The ongoing saga of "when the heck do I write my exam"
The story so far: last month, I found out that one of my exams (microeconomics) was supposed to be this afternoon. Problem: I'm supposed to be working at Dawson this afternoon. I registered a working conflict, watched the woman at the exams office enter it in the computer, and that (I thought) was that. They said they'd get back to me the week of the exam to tell me when my alternate date for writing it was, but that it would probably be the Sunday following.
Monday this week: no call. Yesterday: no call.
Finally, I decided to take matters into my own hands and call *them.* After some obnoxious telephone tag and a thoroughly unhelpful chat with the first secretary, I was transferred to a second one.
Long story short: there is no alternate. I can either write in June, August, or this afternoon. Period. If I hadn't called, I would have missed the exam. So now I get to call Dawson (two and a half hours before my shift) and tell them I'm not coming in. I feel tremendously unprofessional. Oh, and did I mention I haven't really studied for this, since I was planning on writing Sunday? Guess what I'm doing for the next three hours.
Idiots!
