Okay, I spoke slightly too soon. I won't be starting on the 21st, but I *will* be starting on the 28th. Which, I suppose, leaves my exam period free, but I'll be starting immediately thereafter.

So... yay for actually confirmed work and money! And, after a tentative inquiry, it looks like I should be okay for taking time off for Pennsic as well. Yay!

(On the other hand, I've still never actually met my boss except for a handshake when I came in to do the interview. He was busy that day, so one of his team leads did the interview. All my phone contact has been with (I believe) HR, and today with his team lead again. I'm wondering if he's a mythical creature...)
After a winter of not wearing them, I'd forgotten what absolutely horrible shape my sneakers and work shoes were in.

- Sneakers: gaping at the front, soles are halfway worn through
- Work shoes: horribly scuffed, stitches undone in very visible places, inside lining under the heels have moved up under my arches (along with the half-insoles I put in to make them more comfortable)

Damn it, I need new shoes!
FreeRice

The idea is simple: you play a vocabulary game, and for every word you get right, FreeRice's sponsors donate 20 grains of rice through the UN World Food Program.

And for those of my friends who are vocabulary nuts (like me), this site has hard words. Words I'd never seen before. Lots of them. It adjusts to the level of your vocabulary, so if you get a word correct, it sets your difficulty harder; if you get it wrong, it sets it easier. Scores go from 1 to 55, and I find myself around 41 (at least, if I don't cheat and look it up). Boo! I'll just have to play more until I get better.

Go. Play. This site is awesome.
