As I was opening up my files to find the contact information for the head of Vanier's Learning Centre (where I was hoping to get some work this semester), she saved me the trouble and called me instead. After the initial pleasantries were over, the conversation went something like this (and I paraphrase):
Her: I'm sorry, but I have absolutely no hours right now, and it looks like I won't have any for the foreseeable future. But, knowing that, we could meet anyway if you've got time, just to get to know each other.
Me: Sure, sounds good. You never know what might happen.
Her: That's a good answer. If you'd said "no," I would have crossed your name off the list of candidates.
So there you go. You've got to be on your toes with these people. *grin*
In any event, we're meeting on Monday. Because, like I said, you never know what might happen.
