Oct. 30th, 2006

Today commemorates the radio broadcast of H.G. Welles' War of the Worlds in 1938, which caused mass panic and hysteria. Wish we hadn't done that.
This morning was quite chill. The first session, in which we usually have a class (or, as they're known here, "input session," to distinguish them from the classes we teach), today we just had short meetings with our trainers. So I did lesson planning for tomorrow afternoon and generally relaxed. If I'm lucky, I won't have to spend much time on it tonight and can instead devote myself to working on assignment #3 (due Thursday).

The second period was a class on error correction and how to do it quickly without disrupting your lesson. I can tell already that this is something I'm going to have to work on.

This afternoon, I have my first class with the beginners. I discovered this morning that the activity I had planned was very similar to the activity of the girl going right before me. So I decided to do a fast shift and will be playing hangman with them instead.

Today we find out how we did on assignment #2. In a weird twist, only the students who need to resubmit the assignment get it back. Those people who did it all well don't get it back, because the trainers are worried about the potential for plagerism. I still don't know how I did, but you'll know when I do.

For now, lunch. TTFN.
Teaching this class is going to be, erm... challenging. It'll be weird teaching people who need so much work on the basics. To give an example, we're working on things like simple past and adverbs of frequency right now. There's no way I could do with this class some of the stuff I did in the intermediate group.

Sigh. I'll let you know how my first assessed lesson with them goes tomorrow.

I got my second assignment back. I needed to resubmit a bit of it, because I'd slightly missed the point of one of the sentences. So, having my computer with me just by happenstance, I typed up the bit they wanted me to redo and handed it in before I left at 5. Yay for productivity! At least it's one less thing for me to worry about.

I've done my lesson planning for tomorrow, and I think now I'll focus on assignment #3 (due Thursday). I'm like a little machine today. I won't feel guilty at all watching Heroes tonight.
