Okay, let me attempt to step in before this turns flamish. Emer, I know you're trying to help, and I have spoken to Petru about this. My decision is mostly made already, though as I said, it is not impossible that it might change over the next few months. I've put in an application for the PhD program just in case, so I don't need to make a final decision until May.
Also, knowing Ian the way I do, I'll say that he wasn't yelling at you. He really does talk like that and he's just trying to add some emotion to a generally emotionless medium. He's not asking you to apologize, just venting some frustration. (Ian, if I've gotten any of this wrong, feel free to correct me.)
