Today's theme is "cycles."

1. The cycle of the year: I started this morning (at an obscenely early hour) by going to Rob's mom's place to catch the tail end of his Yule ritual. I spent about half an hour there talking about gaming before the closing ritual, which was very symbolic, contained many good omens for the winter ahead, and was generally enjoyable. The year, it seems, will continue in its seasonal cycles, with only a little help from us.

2. The cycle of knowledge and ignorance: After the ritual, and mostly because I didn't want to drive home in morning rush hour, I went for breakfast with Dude. One of the two main topics of conversation was the middle ages (not too surprising, given that we're both SCAdians). As I was happily prattling off about Stuff, I realized that I needed to explain much of what I was saying. It all seemed so fundamental, especially for someone interested in the Middle Ages. Of course, then I realized that 1) most of the stuff I was saying I'd learned in the last three months, and 2) Dude knows more about Medieval warfare than me by a longshot. Just because I know some Stuff doesn't mean I know it all.

3. The cycle of words in a song: After breakfast, I went over to my mom's school to meet her grade 1 class. I arrived just in time for a Christmas sing-along my mom had conveniently neglected to tell me about. Ah well. The kids were cute and excited to see me, and the singing was thankfully only a half-hour.

4. The cycle of projects completed and begun: Back at home, I more-or-less finished up Isabelle's sweater. It only needs the buttons now, but I don't like any of the ones I have at home, so I'm going to go out tomorrow and buy more. Of course, I can't be content to not have any projects going. I saw that I still had most of a ball of yarn left and thought, "I bet that's enough for a matching toque!" So another project has begun. I'm not entirely sure that I will have enough yarn to finish it, but I'll give it the proverbial College Try. At worst, I get to have fun unravelling it.

5. The cycle of feminine fertility: Yup, it's that time of month again. Sorry if this is too much information, but it fit the theme.

6. The cycle of initiation: Thrice today I realized how far I'd come in terms of geekdom and gaming in the last five or six years. Once when discussing a hypothetical gaming situation (Vampire) and how to go about milking it for all it's worth; second when remembering memorable moments from Dude's games; and third showing up to Ian and Marc introducing Rachel to Spaceballs. How I love that movie.

7. The cycle of health and sickness: I was around cats twice today and am still relatively fine. I think the trick is leaving BEFORE I start reacting. (Though this often means only staying 30-45 minutes.) This theory shall be tested further in the near future.

8. The cycle of sleeplessness: The first people I saw today had been awake all night. The last person I saw today was planning on staying up all night. I, on the other hand, am planning on going to sleep, and soon. So g'night all!
