Session 1, part 2. Simon and Marie successfully prevent the summoning of a great elder god, and return to meet the newest Aegis operative, aka Marc’s character Chase Cartwright, “The Crusader.”
I’m getting the sense this game won’t have too many lines of the night because I do a lot of talking, and I don’t really plan on listening to 6-7 hours worth of audio every week to pick up what I missed while I was having conversation. Oh, well. We’ll take what we can get.
[When last we left Our Heroes (tm), they were hiding out on a boat with Chuck Thompson, while Agent Suzanne has been captured by the enemy.]
Kyn the GM: “Chuck is… soldering his wounds.”
[Simon has an idea.]
Simon: “Do we have anything at all of Miss Suzanne’s? The closer the better.”
Chuck Thompson: *pulls out a vial of blood*
Simon: “…Well, can’t get much closer than that.”
[After a failed attempt to paint the city from the crow’s nest of the ship, Simon hypnotizes Marie to get her into her painting trance.]
Kyn the GM: “Roll paint.”
Julie: “One fucking percent.”
Tony: “I don’t know if I should cheer or just say, ‘Bye, I’m dead.’”
[Marie has painted the city and the ritual that’s in progress, i.e. the raising of a great elder god. Stepping back to look at the full glory of her painting, she envisions Cthulhu itself.]
Kyn the GM: “This is the first time you’ve wanted to rip your own eyes out.”
Tony: “I know how that feels!”
[We prepare to rescue Suzanne from the clutches of the cultists.]
Chuck Thompson: “So, charge in with a blaze of glory?”
Simon: “I believe the direct approach is the only approach in this situation.”
[The direct approach first involves getting ourselves to the center of town.]
Chuck Thompson: *punches out carriage driver* “Federal agent, motherfucker!”
[Marie has an epiphany as we reach the clock tower.]
Marie: “I think the statue may be the way in.”
Chuck Thompson: “Well, let’s see.” *lights a stick of dynamite*
Marc: “I like this guy!”
[Blowing up the statue does indeed reveal a secret tunnel entrance.]
Kyn the GM: “There’s rubble, a corridor, and the remains of two ghouls.”
[Simon hears chanting from down the hallway.]
Kyn the GM: “They’re rushing the ritual.”
Tony: “That’s a no-no.”
[We enter the ritual room. Simon and Marie make their saves to resist the mind-affecting wards on the entrance. Chuck… does not.]
Julie: “Oh, Chuck, you should have gone to save Suzanne.”
Kyn the GM: “He really should have.”
[The head cultist, aka Rachel Rackham, pulls out her own vocal chords to continue the ritual while she attacks us. Marie manages to shoot the vocal chords with an extremely lucky shot.]
Kyn the GM: “She’s so pissed off.”
Tony: “She can’t even scream.”
Kyn the GM: “She can’t cast, either.”
[Simon kills the head cultist but is badly wounded in the process. He and Chuck are both unconscious. Still, we know where Suzanne is.]
Julie: “I’m gonna go be heroic.”
[Marie finds Suzanne being tortured by Mayor Rackham. A brief combat ensues in which Marie wounds the mayor but does not kill him, and is wounded to consciousness in the process.]
Kyn the GM: “You’ve been slapped before, but this guy wasn’t holding anything back.”
Julie: “And I’ve been bull-whipped.”
Kyn the GM: “And stabbed.”
[Our Heroes (tm) reconvene in the remains of the fight. They are not doing well.]
Julie: “I think given that I have three, count’em three, hit points, I may be the best off of this group.”
[We spend some time recuperating at the Aegis branch hospital in North Carolina before returning to New York.]
Chuck Thompson: (to Simon) “You’ll stay in HQ until you decide to get your own place or you make Miss Marie here an honest woman.”
Simon: “We’re already married, don’t you know.”
[Meanwhile, Aegis’ newest operative, Chase Cartwright “The Crusader” is brought back from India by Captain Faraday, Batu, and Elizabeth. He is given rooms in Aegis HQ overlooking the under-construction Statue of Liberty.]
Chase: (dismayed) “I get a birds-eye view of the foot-statue!”
[Chase meets his handler, Agent John. Also in the room is Chase’s dog, Pinch.]
Chase: “Pinch, this is John.”
Pinch: *barks happily*
John: “What am I supposed to do with it?”
Chase: “…Say hello?”
[Agent John tries to get a bead on the new operative and his companion.]
John: “Is he a supernatural dog?”
Chase: “I think he’s pretty super.”
Pinch: *barks happily*
[Chase and John get off to a rocky start.]
John: “Move it, operative.”
Chase: “Whatever you say, wank.”
Julie: (to Tony) “It’s good we have a working relationship.”
[Chase is introduced to The Doctor, another operative, for his induction physical. Note that Chase is English and The Doctor is Irish.]
The Doctor: *pulls out a huge needle*
Chase: “What’s that for?!”
The Doctor: “To pull your blood.”
Chase: “Don’t you have a smaller needle?”
The Doctor: “Yes, but you’re English.”
[Chase tries to develop some camaraderie with The Doctor based on their shared dislike of Americans.]
Chase: “They’re all Yanks.”
The Doctor: “So, do I hate them more than I hate the English…?”
[The Doctor is an operative of Aegis, which means he has an open mind about his patients and their potential abilities.]
The Doctor: “Do you turn into a hairy wolf on the full moon?”
Chase: “…No.”
The Doctor: “It took you way too long to say that.”
[Chase spends some time getting to know Aegis.]
Kyn the GM: “For you, the next week is a battery of tests.”
Marc: “I draw the line at dissection.”
[We compare our respective ranks within the organization.]
Kyn the GM: “Elizabeth has one rank: Elizabeth.”
[The PCs have ice cream with Elizabeth. In December in New York.]
Kyn the GM: “You’ve never seen Elizabeth this excited except when it involves murder.”
And that’s it for this time. Join us next week when Our Heroes (tm) go monster-hunting before they’ve completely recovered from their last traumatic experiences. Good times, good times…
