Fire bad, tree pretty?
The good news is that Marc's on a fire.
The bad news is also that Marc's on a fire.
See, Marc makes most of his money over the summer when he's actually on fires, as opposed to, say, cleaning out the engine for the twelfth time in a week. And because it's been a record wet year in his corner of Montana, he hasn't actually been on any fires this summer. Which is bad.
So when I couldn't get through to him last Thursday night, there was a chance he was on a fire, and that was good. Then I couldn't get through to him Friday or Saturday, either. When I got home on Sunday, I checked the dispatch website and discovered that he was, in fact, on a fire.
Tonight he called me for a few minutes from one of his crew-mate's cell phones. It's the first time I've spoken to him since last Wednesday, and I probably won't get another chance until this Wednesday.
On the upside, he's finally making some money and doing what he went out to Montana to do, which is really good. On the downside, I miss talking with him.
Of course, he comes home for good on Sunday, so at least I know that this "not speaking to Marc" hiatus is going to be short-lived. Yay for almost having Marc back!
