The Devil Made Me Do It

Remember the vampires we killed a few sessions back? Remember how satisfying it was? Well, they had friends. Friends intent on getting revenge by attacking Our Heroes (tm) just before they left town. Sadly, what should have been a quick fight lasted over an hour, as everyone (even the GM) rolled abysmally, and Our Heroes (tm) wound up with Con damage and negative levels. Boo! Hiss!

[Jace receives a message and immediately encourages us to leave town faster.]
Ionos: "I'm going to insist on needing more details."
Jace: "When I said I was on leave from a mage school, I wasn't completely honest..."

[A large crowd has gathered at the Temple of Boccob, from which Our Heroes (tm) will be teleported to their next destination.]
Robert the GM: "Do you hang around with the crowd?"
Eric: "Depends. Detect evil."

[Baska has noticed a few ne'er-do-wells in the crowd, so we cut the speeches short and are ushered into a back corridor. Note that Andrew was not at last night's session.]
Eric: "Gorka'munda goes first."
Adam: "Gorka'munda is now dead."

[The last PC enters the back corridor.]
Julie: "So, vampires attack, we're all dead?"
Robert the GM: "In a nutshell."

[As soon as we're all in the corridor, we're shrouded in magical darkness and peppered with arrows and crossbow bolts.]
Robert the GM: "Do you do anything?"
Sabina: "I attack the darkness."

[Ionos is grappled by one of the vampires. What it doesn't know is that Ionos' hands are extraordinarily painful to evil creatures.]
Ionos: "Spawn of darkness, you don't have me, I have you!"

[Bardo, having been swallowed whole by the Devil of Gluttony in our last combat, is now bitten by a vampire.]
Sabina: "I feel like I've spent two days in this town eating, and two days being eaten."

[Everyone's rolling very poorly. The combat takes over an hour.]
Robert the GM: "I had intended for this to be a light session."

[The vampire that had initially attacked Ionos now notices Baska, and brings her down to a single hit point in one strike.]
Julie: "I will use a clever ploy!"
Eric: "You run away?"
Julie: "I play dead."

[The first kill went to Gorka'munda, whose player was not present. Two other kills went to Agatha, whose player was not present.]
Eric: "Everyone who isn't here is getting all the kills. Is anyone else bothered by this?"

And that's it for this week. I won't be at next week's game because of other commitments, so hopefully everyone will survive one sessions without everyone's favorite con artist. "The Devil Made Me Do It" will be back in two weeks, when we'll be hot on the trail of the Devil of Envy!
