Mystery solved

For the past week or so, I've been perplexed. When I'm at home, I have my Gmail set up to download into my email program (Apple Mail) and delete the messages off the web-based server. When I leave the house for extended periods of time, to go to work for example, I take Apple Mail offline so that I can access my email from the web, and download them all when I get home.

For the last week, my emails have been disappearing.

I had no idea where they went. I took my home account offline, but the messages weren't on the web. When I got home, they didn't download into my inbox. But they were still coming through when my computer was on and downloading. I had absolutely no idea what was going on.

Today, I solved the mystery.

It turns out that I forgot to take my mail accounts offline from my OLD computer, the one I gave to my mom about a month ago. She must have accessed the mail program by accident, because I came upstairs today to see scattered email messages from the last week downloaded onto the computer.

At least I know I wasn't hacked, anyway. And now I can take measures to ensure it won't happen again.

Huzzah for the solutions to small mysteries.
