There are few things as comfy or relaxing as having a baby fall asleep lying against your chest.

I just mention.

A purring kitten is better.

While that would undoubtedly be true if I were not allergic, purring kittens make me not breathe. Therefore, I'll take the baby. :)

Besides, unlike babies all cats, even kittens like to knead their resting spots before lying down. And babies do not have claws.

But the "shriek" of a newborn is hardly piercing. It is almost laughable in its plaintiveness especially when compared to the intense look on their face. Now that my girls are over 4, I really miss the little cry they had when they were still tiny.

And sadly, babies (as babies) are short-term - far too much so. Within a year, they are walking and within two talking. Now, mine are over 40lbs. and do not fall asleep cuddled up on me any more. Too quickly by far it flew.

Rather have the claws than either a suddenly full diaper or a baby deciding it's hungry/wet/bored and suddenly screaming at the top of its little lungs.

I think they're both equally fantastic to have asleep on one's chest, for different reasons.
