Huh.

Apparently the entire city of Montreal smells like woodsmoke from the forest fires up north. Makes me wish I had a sense of smell. I love the smell of woodsmoke. If I concentrate really, really hard, I can almost smell something, but I'm not sure if that's an actual smoke smell or just my brain playing tricks on me.

Stupid cat allergies...

Books of 2010: 24. Good Omens, Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman

It wouldn't be too much of an exaggeration to say that Good Omens is one of my favourite books of all time. It's tied right up there for #1 with The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Restaurant at the End of the Universe. I found myself a few days ago without anything to read (gasp! shock!) and realized I hadn't read Good Omens for several years, and decided reread it yet again.

It's just as good as I remember it, and the one-liners are still just as funny. Every time I read it, I find something new and amusing, and there are still words in there that I don't know, which is a pretty big accomplishment.

For those who have never read Good Omens, it's about the Apocalypse. After a fashion. More importantly, it's about a devil who didn't so much fall as saunter vaguely downwards, an effeminate angel who owns a book store, the four horsemen of the Apocalypse (and the other four horsemen of the Apocalypse), a witch, the Witchfinder army, and a veritable host of minor yet memorable characters. And, of course, the Antichrist, an 11-year-old boy named Adam Young.

If you haven't read Good Omens, you really should. You owe it to yourself. Just don't drink anything while you're reading the funny bits.
